From Jason Krier:

I hope you’re doing well. I’m reaching out to ask for support for this GoFundMe. Please consider donating, no contribution is too small to help. Sharing with your network also helps reach more potential donors.

All:

Last night the GHL Board met and I would like to share some discussion points. We first would like to welcome Rich Henry to the board as he replaces Al Schiaffino who we thank for his great work while serving.

As you've probably heard by now the SIC is raising its rates as initiated by new ownership. What this will mean for the GHL is an approx $35 cost increase per player for the winter season. This should be published this week along with registration details.

For the WNS we don't expect any major changes since much of the skate is at Muni. That should still remain at $20 for the 1:30 mins.

The FNS incurs a prime time charge, so our choices were increase the fee to $25 for 1:30 OR stay at $20 and go for 1:15. We want to keep the rate at $20 and incur a time reduction, but are still figuring this out.

There is discussion about a 4th division, but there is information we need to collect and understand to determine if this will be feasible. While we will remain at 3 divisions in 2024, the '25-'26 season could see us implement that change.

As always if you have questions feel free to contact any board or player committee member and we will help out as best we can.

The GHL would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Bauder family. Sean was a wonderful member of the GHL family and a great friend. He will be greatly missed.

His family is asking for donations to Special Hockey in lieu of flowers.

All:

As a Christmas gift to my 10-year-old players that I’m coaching I’m reaching out to organizers of different skates to see if they can help me acquire some hockey sticks in good shape that people aren’t using anymore. I have a larger need for righty sticks, but anything I collect and do not use I will save for try hockey for free day. I’m going to give them away to my team at our Christmas party on the 15th, so if you have any I am usually at the rink 2-3 days per week and live 8 mins away. Thanks.

Text me at 484-661-6613 if you have any.

Last Reminder for returning players. New Player registration opens on 9/10.

Registration for the Geezer Hockey League Winter 2023 season is now open on our website (www.geezerhockey.com).

Registration is currently open to RETURNING PLAYERS (any player that has previously played at least one season in the GHL) through September 9th. Registration will be open to new players starting on September 10th and will be open until all of the rosters are filled on a first come, first served basis. If you are a new player and register before September 10th your registration will be cancelled. With the closure of the Whitehall Rink, we are anticipating a large number of registrations for the league this season. I would encourage you to register as early as possible to ensure a spot in the league for this upcoming season.

The cost of the season will be a single payment of $475. If you are not paid in full prior to the drafts (September 18th), it may result in you not being drafted on a team and your registration cancelled. Payment for the league fees should be made via Credit Card/Venmo/PayPal after registering on the website. Checks can also still be used and should be made out to the Geezer Hockey League and placed in our drop box outside the west rink at the Steel Ice Center.

In order for your registration to be complete and to be drafted on a team you must have:

Completed online registration via the GHL website (http://geezerhockey.com/).
Provided a VALID 2022/2023 USA hockey number. (https://membership.usahockey.com/).
Paid for the season (PayPal, Venmo, Credit Card) – the payment link is provided after registering on the website.
Have a zero balance due from prior seasons.
The season will start on September 25th and will consist of 18 regular season games and at least 1 playoff game per team (minimum of 19 games). To include the maximum number of players, we are planning on have 20 teams in the league this season. To accommodate the extra teams there will be limited Sunday early games (3 PM), Saturday night games, and possibly a Sunday late (11 PM) game. Each team will likely only have at total of one to three early games, Saturday night games, and/or possibly an 11 PM game. Most of your games will be between 4 PM and 10 PM as per our typical schedule. Since we are expect there will not be much available ice time outside our scheduled games we will likely not be able to reschedule games and the team that is short will be given a forfeit. The ice would remain available for players to use for a scrimmage. Since Christmas and New Years Day both fall on Sunday, we will have game on New Years Day.

If the league has room to add new players, the evaluation skate will be September 11th @ 6:45PM and is mandatory for new players joining the league. The evaluations will consist of a few basic hockey drills followed by open hockey. Please email me if you are planning on attending the evaluation session.
