🏗️ A New Chapter for Steel Ice Center Begins! 🏒⛸️

Today, we officially broke ground on the next chapter of Steel Ice Center — an expansion that will bring a third sheet of ice to the Lehigh Valley!

WFMZ was there to capture the groundbreaking and talk with Steel Ice Center owner Keith Krem about what this project means for our growing ice sports community.

The expansion will include:

🏒 A third ice rink
🏋️ A 4,000-square-foot athletic training facility
🏫 A new locker room complex for Lehigh University
⛸️ More opportunities for hockey players, figure skaters, adult athletes and the next generation to get on the ice

Our two existing rinks are already packed throughout the week, and this expansion represents something much bigger than simply adding another sheet of ice. It means more kids getting their first opportunity to skate, more athletes having the ice time they need to develop, and more room for ice sports to continue growing throughout the Lehigh Valley.

This has been years in the making, and today we finally got to put shovels in the ground.

Construction is expected to be completed by July 31, 2027.

The new ice surface is part of a larger expansion at the center.

🏗️ Tomorrow, We Break Ground on the Future of Steel Ice Center

This Friday marks an important moment for Steel Ice Center and for the entire Lehigh Valley ice sports community.

At 4:00 PM, we’ll officially break ground on our newest expansion, including the addition of a third ice rink.

For more than two decades, Steel Ice Center has been a home for hockey players, figure skaters, coaches, families, leagues, and clubs throughout the region. Tomorrow, we begin building the next chapter.

The ceremony will take place immediately before the opening of the Mark Spease Memorial 4v4 Kick Off Tournament, with a happy hour at The Steel Pub following the groundbreaking.

This event is open to the public, and we hope the hockey, figure skating, and greater Lehigh Valley community will join us for a moment that will help shape the future of ice sports in our region.
