We’re Crockpot Dancers!
Becoming a professional Ballet Dancer (or any style of professional dancer) is a meal with purposeful ingredients, cooked gradually in a slow-cooker.
It is not a quick meal thrown in the microwave for five minutes.
You must study your art for a long time, years in fact!
Attending class once or twice a week with intense, 150% effort will NOT get you there.
Here’s what can get you there:
• Attend daily (almost) class at the best effort you can safely (without injuring yourself) put forth. Some days this should be 100%. Some days it will be 82%. That’s OK. Pushing yourself to the point of injury has zero benefits. Give what you have that day. The secret is… Week after week, year after year. Many years!
• Take the day off from class if you are injured or unwell. Let your body heal.
• Fuel your body with food and water. A lot! Nutrition will keep you energized, healthy, and strong!
• Create short-term and long-term dance goals for yourself. Write them down.
• Understand that this is a long process and trust that process over time!
• Ask for help sometimes. If you are struggling, you don’t have to hide it. Look for people to trust. Many are happy to help!
• Forgive yourself for your mistakes! Let it go, find a new option, and carry on. You have the right to be human!
• Study your art outside of the classroom. Attend performances, workshops, and auditions.
• Experience time outside your art as well. Make friends, go to movies, read, paint. Whatever makes you happy!
• Repeat all of the above. For many years!
