Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈 "National Coming Out Day..." by LGBTQ+ artist and activist Keith Haring is part of the LUAG Permanent Collection. Created for the inaugural National Coming Out Day on October 11, 1988, this poster is a colorful emblem of pride, visibility, and activism.

Haring grew up in nearby Kutztown, PA, where a Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission historic marker was placed on the grounds of the Kutztown Area Historical Society’s 1892 Public School Building in 2024. Haring is known worldwide for using his bold public art as a powerful tool for activism, championing visibility and raising awareness around LGBTQ+ issues.

We closed for the summer at the end of last week and we're already missing our incredible team of student workers! LUAG quite literally wouldn't be the same without their hard work, energy, and dedication.

🎓✨We want to send a special congratulations and fond farewell to our fabulous graduating seniors Ryan Javier, Micaela Cortese, An Huy Nguyen, Mia Le, Ivory Le, Kira Miller, and Laura Reigle, who served LUAG as dedicated stewards, educators, welcome desk greeters, designers, and so much more. THANK YOU for everything you’ve contributed to the LUAG community during your time here. We are so proud of you and can't wait to see what you accomplish in your next chapters!

You'll always be a part of the LUAG family. Come visit anytime!💚

🖼️It’s hard to believe that it’s officially closing day for “Here and Now: 100 Years of LUAG, 100 Local Artists”. Come visit before we close for the summer at 5:00pm today.

It has been an honor to feature 100 works that represent the extraordinary creative community in the Lehigh Valley. If you miss the chance to see it in person, you’ll be able to view a reproduction of 17 artworks (including this one!) along the South Bethlehem Greenway through July.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: In 1996, Charley Farrell suspended his architectural career of thirty years, sold his architectural firm, and returned to school to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting. After graduation, he worked for two years as a Resident Affiliate Artist at the Tryon Center for Visual Arts and was represented by the Hodges Taylor Gallery, both located in Charlotte, North Carolina. His work received an award in a juried exhibition in the Art of the State of Pennsylvania. Several of his paintings were accepted by the North Carolina Museum of Art in a juried show of North Carolina Artists.

In 2001, in support of his wife’s decision to teach at Lehigh University, he relocated in Berks County, continuing to develop his interest in Architecture and Art. Fifteen years ago, he began writing music, and performs with his wife, Amy Forsyth, as a Singer/Songwriter at local venues.

In 2014, he retired from architectural practice to focus on painting and music. He has exhibited his paintings at the Freyberger Gallery, Penn State Berks, The Goggleworks in Reading, PA, and Studio B, in Boyertown, PA. He has won numerous awards, including First Prize for the Art of Jazz, Berks Arts Council Juried Exhibition, the Grand Prize for the Goggleworks 11th Annual Juried Exhibition. He had a solo exhibition in 2018 at the Goggleworks Center for the Arts. His artwork has been exhibited in New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.
