Before we close our doors for good, we decided to get the team back together for one last ride. We are over the moon to announce our finale, the DC Premiere of Anna Ziegler's dazzlingly poetic, funny and heart-wrenching play, A DELICATE SHIP (December 6-23)
Directed by Jenna Place, and featuring Jordan Friend, Mary Myers and Stephen Russell Murray, this is a story about living on the precipice of change in our lives; how we cling to the past while searching for our next chapter…the perfect coda for our little theatre company that could.
On a stormy Christmas eve in present day Brooklyn, new-ish couple Sarah and Sam are spending a quiet holiday together. Then, a knock at the door, and in from the cold comes Sarah’s childhood best friend, Nate, bearing gifts of poetry, recreational drugs, and cheese doodles. What follows is an achingly beautiful, witty and tense tango between three 30-somethings at the turn of their lives, ricocheting between the present and old memories…with each providing their own commentary directly to the audience.
A DELICATE SHIP performs not in a theatre, but in a unique venue that brings 4615 back to our “play-in-a-house” beginnings. Our performance space, Studio 1469 (yes, really), is a flexible art space built out of a former garage in Columbia Heights. As you approach the space, you’ll walk down a cobblestone alley, journeying down memory lane before arriving at a beautiful, intimate venue for only 30 audience members a show.
As a parting thank you from us, every single seat is Pay-What-You-Can. We hope you’ll join us for our theatre’s last ever voyage, and take in this beautiful play in a one-of-a-kind space.
