Annually over the past 8 years Iāve gone on a Birthday fishing trip to the same undisclosed location (unless you are a close fishing companion, then it is a shared secret you will take to your grave). It is a grueling several mile hike in and out with rugged terrain and a lot of elevation change. Now that Iām getting relatively old, itās kind of a big deal to hike that far š. The first year was an impromptu trip the morning of, so I went by myself in flip flops exploring for a good fishing hole. What I thought would be a short hike in my sandals ended up being much longer. Iāve seen both mountain lions and bears on various birthday trips, so itās probably good that I go with friends and high-powered revolvers now. The first year I only ended up fishing a couple hours and caught over 20 spawning trout in a couple little bits of pocket water on the tiny river branch (the collage in the middle shows a few from one single little hole that I have now dubbed ābirthday holeā). The video attached shows some shots from the 2015 trip, and the other pictures span every year until this one (when I went a week early) with Chris Barlow. Iām 33 today, which is sort of a big deal. Jesus accomplished a lot that year of his life, so I better get my act together a little. While re-watching the fishing video, I learned that my catch-phrase is definitely "there we go" when I hook a fish.
