Some updates from the field! Starting to get close... finally honing in on the right colors and atmosphere, where I can really play and feel into each brush stroke. Having a lot of fun now that I can see it starting to come together.

That uncertainty in the beginning of a painting, when you don’t know if it will be even remotely good can be tough to push through. But I followed my intuition on this one and dove in without a clear idea of what the end result would look like. Just listened to my inner prompting and setup where I felt called to be. You can see the full development up to this point in my story highlight “Last Light.”

I feel like it will be fun to make a reel of this one when it’s finally done. To see all the changes it went through.

The 2026 Calendar is here! 😃

I am very happy with how the prints of each painting turned out.

A friend who is an artist said she is going to frame some of them for her home!

Last year, my wife Kira had a good idea. She wanted to sell more affordable prints of my paintings. So she designed this functional and beautiful calendar. 🙌🏻

We released the calendar early this year. That way, people can order it before the holidays.

We suggest you order before Friday, December 5th for the best chance of pre-Christmas delivery.

You can get the calendar on my website: www.dustinneece.com or through the link in my profile.

Let me know if you have questions.

We hope you enjoy this year’s selection of paintings!

I got a chance to get out and paint today in this beautiful fall weather. I let my mind and my heart lead me to this particular spot. It’s an interesting scene to make a painting of, as it’s not particularly majestic to look at on first glance. But when the light hits the leaves, the hillside, and creates all the variations of color in the water, it becomes something quite visually generous to paint. Looking forward to working more on this one this week if the weather and the leaves hold 🤞🏻😁

For me, the only way to get “in the zone”creatively is to be in a space that supports flow. I honestly feel that to make a painting that has all the qualities I am looking for (balance, luminosity, intensity, texture, aliveness) it requires 100% of my energy and attention. I don’t know how anyone makes anything of lasting quality without getting into that state. I think it’s why writers often need to go on retreat to complete a book.

When I’m working in my house I’m too close to the computer, too close to the refrigerator, too close to my normal concerns and habits.

I need to get away… and saturate my energy, body, and mind in the elements.

This pine forest is a sacred space for me, it’s a cathedral as far as I’m concerned… and I was grateful to call it my studio for the day.

New painting coming along… more layers to come. 🙏🏻💫❤️

Today I sold this beautiful painting, “Heading Home” to my really great artist friend and collector Diana.

The best part about it was that she loves the painting so much, and it was one of my less favorite works from the collection in my studio right now.

Her purchase is really helping to show me that the judgments I have about my own work and the critical voice in my head isn’t always “right” or even “relevant.” It may be helpful for me to grow and hone in, more and more, on what I want to create… but its great to be reminded that it’s not the only voice, not the only opinion, and definitely not the only truth.

I know Diana is going to take this painting home and have it above her fire place for years to come. That she’ll enjoy it and love it, and that is really the most important thing when it comes right down to it. That the work is loved and appreciated. As the creator that is what I really want. Maybe that’s how The Creator feels about the universe, a hope that it is loved and appreciated. 🤔 That’s what just popped into my head while righting this, so maybe there’s some truth to it?

Anyway… just to let y’all know, for my birthday I decided to run a “New Beginnings” sale on my website. It’s time to make space for new creations in my studio so I’m putting a lot of older works, and some new ones on sale as well.

You can see all the paintings with prices on my website right now, link in bio! Obviously! 😁🙏🏻

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

“Passing Storm”
2025, Oil on Linen
8 x 10 inches, unframed

It’s time for an experiment.

For nearly all of my painting career I’ve worked a very long time on each painting, laboring over every detail to get every inch just right. I love the paintings I’ve made this way, but at some point the labor overshadowed the love.

It also required that every painting have a hefty price tag, adding more pressure and perfectionism to the whole process.

So I’ve decided to try something new:
More spontaneous paintings.
Lower prices.
More fun.

Like all things in art and in life, it’s an experiment. Something I feel called to try. Let’s see how it goes!

My first of these new paintings, “Nature’s Blessing” sold in a week.

Here is my next spontaneous work: “Passing Storm.”

I carried my painting gear into the field at Breakneck Hill Reservation.
It’s beautiful this time of year: summer hay, nesting birds, queen anne’s lace, big skies, gorgeous sunsets. I found my spot on top of the hill, facing storm clouds rolling in.

I setup my easel and got to work. Just then, lightening struck.

I thought, “I should I go home.”

“Kira wouldn’t be very happy with me if she knew I stayed out here in a storm!”

Luckily, the clouds passed, and I was able to get it all on canvas. And that’s when I realized...

There’s only one way to capture the immediacy of a moment: I have to let go of every little detail.

Believe me, I fought with my tendency to think: “Well... If I go back and work on it again, I could probably get more complexity in the clouds. I could probably get the lightening strike more exact. I could probably get more detail in the field...”

No.
It’s done.
It captures the light.
The energy.
The feeling.

It captures nature’s fleeting quality, one thing always transforming into another. One moment, transitioning eternally into the next. I’m happy with it... it’s resolved.

This painting is now available on my website, along with reduced pricing on all of my other available works. You can find all the details on my available works page on my website.

Looking forward to sharing more spontaneous works with you soon.

The moon was magic tonight. Nature is an endless source of inspiration and the finest teacher. Freezing cold temperatures, but I kept warm with eight layers of clothing.

I was talking with a friend today while I was painting about intentionally entertaining the idea that everything is perfect. Just as it is. It doesn’t mean that we don’t strive to make things better… but assuming that the world, and the universe is already “correct” as it is right now, is a fundamentally humble attitude toward life. It also assumes an emotional orientation of appreciation.

In this way, life becomes a reality to experience. Not a problem to solve. I found that idea helpful, and even more than the concept, the conscious cultivation of the emotion / energy of gratitude to be greatly beneficial.

Judgement and perfectionism has been a very challenging journey for me. I think because when we judge and criticize ourselves or our circumstances, we are fundamentally invalidating, devaluing, and pushing away some aspect of ourselves or our lives.

Conscious appreciation, and a willingness to receive the inherent value of what is happening right now, just the way it is, has been an inestimable source of medicine for me.

Also painting, painting is medicine. And being in nature, even when it’s cold.
