Announcing the Berkeley Ballet Ball Program!
✨ See these works on May 16th ✨

✨La Mazurka by Sally Streets: Experience La Mazurka, a new work by Artistic Director Emerita Sally Streets and her first choreography for Berkeley Ballet since 2018. This new ballet is set to the elegant music of Strauss and performed by a refined trio of Adult Open Division dancers.

✨Folk by Robin Dekkers: Experience Folk by Robin Dekkers, a powerful tour de force uniting 65 performers from the Youth Division, Studio Company, Adult Open Division, Dance for PD® program, and guest artists, set to music from the Kronos Quartet’s “Long Time Passing” album honoring Pete Seeger’s music and exploring our shared role in crafting a better world.

✨Jumps Celebration and Modern Progressions: See the Level 2-9 Youth Division dancers in an inspiring showcase of the Berkeley Ballet modern and ballet syllabi in Jumps Celebration by Sandra Chinn, accompanied by Lucy Hudson, and Modern Progressions by Colin Frederick, accompanied by Daniel Berkman.

✨Walpurgisnacht by George Balanchine: See the Berkeley Ballet Studio Company perform an excerpt from Walpurgisnacht by George Balanchine, renowned for its exuberant, high-velocity choreography and joyful revelry, showcasing dazzling virtuosity and bold, spirited ensemble work.

Join us Saturday, May 16th at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center for our annual Berkeley Ballet Ball.
This all-ages performance, fundraiser, and dance party is a perfect night out for families and friends! Wear your most fabulous formal outfit inspired by the changing seasons and join us for a program featuring new works by Sally Streets and Robin Dekkers, an excerpt from George Balanchine’s Walpurgisnacht, and an inspiring showcase of the Berkeley Ballet Youth Division dancers’ ballet and modern training!

Here’s what to expect for the evening:
✨ Wear your most fabulous formal attire! This year’s theme is Seasons Change, so pull inspiration from your favorite season to celebrate Berkeley Ballet’s 45th Season Anniversary.
✨ 5:30-6:30 Mingle in the lobby with drinks, Hors d’oeuvres, and a photo booth!
✨ 6:45-8:30 enjoy performances of Walpurgisnacht (excerpt) by George Balanchine, New Work by Sally Streets, Folk by Robin Dekkers, and Jumps Celebration and Modern Fortifications by the Berkeley Ballet Faculty

This summer the Senior Intensive will be led by incredible Faculty Robin Dekkers, Courtney Henry, and guest faculty Kyra Nichols!
Learn more about the featured teachers below:

Robin Dekkers is Artistic Director of Berkeley Ballet and was named “25 To Watch” by DANCE Magazine. A former member of Ballet Arizona, ODC/Dance, Company C Contemporary Ballet, and Diablo Ballet, he founded Post:ballet, a Bay Area contemporary company active from 2010–2025. He has led collaborations with Kronos Quartet, San Francisco Girls Chorus, Berkeley Symphony, BAMPFA, and Berkeley Public Library, and created works for ballet companies and university dance programs nationwide.

Courtney Henry is School Manager of Berkeley Ballet and an interdisciplinary creator, performer, writer, educator, mentor, and mother. She danced with Alonzo King LINES Ballet for 14 seasons and has taught and researched at leading institutions including Juilliard, Rutgers, and Cornell. Her work appears in major dance publications. A Princess Grace Awardee and Goethe Institute Research Beneficiary, she also received the UArts President’s Award for Innovative and Creative Research.

Kyra Nichols, a Berkeley native, trained with her mother, former New York City Ballet dancer Sally Streets, and later at the School of American Ballet. She joined New York City Ballet in 1974, rising quickly to Principal Dancer in 1979. Nichols performed with the company for 33 years, becoming its longest-serving ballerina before retiring in 2007. Since then, she has taught, staged ballets, and served as ballet mistress with Pennsylvania Ballet.
