• The Back Room is no

t a place for food. Oh, we have packaged snacks available, but nothing that needs to be heated, sliced, or served.

• The Back Room is not a place for drinks. Of course we offer water and soft drinks for sale, and adults are welcome to bring their own adult beverages - we'll even supply the glasses. But we can't sell any alcohol, and we don't really want to.

• The Back Room IS a place with comfortable upholstered furniture and a singular focus on the music. Seating, as it happens, is very important to us, because we want the folks here to be completely relaxed, and happy, and ready to listen.

We were so sorry to hear about the recent theft of Elizabeth and the Catapult's gear when they were in town to play the Back Room this past week. Their fans and friends helped get them back on their feet, though full recovery of what was lost will take some time (and money). And despite what happened, they put on a great show!

To all the touring musicians out there: PLEASE don't leave ANYTHING of value in your car/truck/van while you're visiting the Bay Area. It only takes a minute for someone to smash the window and take your things. It's worth the time and trouble to stash your gear, laptops and luggage somewhere safe when you park your vehicle. NEVER leave it unattended if you can help it.

The acclaimed Los-Angeles-based group INCENDIO performs original “world guitar” compositions, featuring incredible guitar-playing across a variety of genres: Latin, Middle Eastern, and Celtic grooves.

Formed in 1999, the group has 11 CDs and 2 DVDs available internationally, variously hitting the Billboard, CMJ, NAV, and Amazon.com charts. Averaging over 150 shows a year since 2000 (until the COVID shutdown), INCENDIO’s live performance is an explosive improvisatory journey, garnering tremendous audience response in such diverse venues as the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, California World Festival, Strawberry Music Festival, the Sundance Film Festival, the national Levitt Pavilions, and many more across the U.S and abroad.

Their eleventh international release, SUMMONING THE MUSE, came out in June 2019. Their previous release, June 2013’s “The Shape of Dreams,” stayed at or near the top of the Amazon Flamenco and World charts for the remainder of that year. They have now reached over 116 million spins on streaming radio and have over 10,000 Facebook likes. Their music can be heard on Pandora, Spotify, and other streaming outlets. Incendio is JP Durand (guitar, guitar synth), Jim Stubblefield (guitar), Liza Carbe (bass, guitar), and Tim Curle (drums).

JP Durand is also a graduate of UC Berkeley (Economics, Class of ’90), and is so happy to return to this wonderful town.
