10 Years in the Lorin District. ✊🎨
On May 1st, 2016, Modern Electric Studio opened its doors in Berkeley as a UCB senior project titled “Bodily Autonomy and Mark Making.” A decade later, we are still standing as a hybrid tattoo parlor and art gallery rooted in South Berkeley.
To celebrate our 10th anniversary and honor the spirit of the National General Strike, we are putting down the machines for the day. From 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, we are transforming our space into a non-commercial public art gallery.
No tattoo business—just art, history, and community.
🖼 Exhibition: A showcase of figurative oil paintings, abstract art, and illustrative drawings, sharing a tattooing legacy dating back to the 1940s. 🎶 Music: Live acoustic sets throughout the afternoon. 🥟 Food: A pop-up empanada kitchen on-site. ✊ Solidarity: Community resources provided by members of the Bay Resistance “Shrinking Fascism” pod and neighborhood partners.
Come by to gather, connect, and appreciate art without the pressure of being a “customer.” Let’s celebrate ten years of residency in the heart of the Lorin.
