A new commission in progress in the studio! 🍂🍁

This terracotta loom is inspired by Autumn in New York City. I’m incorporating leaves from oak, london plane, maple, and ginkgo trees, commonly found lining the streets of NY and dotting Central Park. The terracotta clay is subtly evocative if the hues of red and orange that saturate the city in the Fall. I’ve especially loved cutting and shaping the leaves of maple, which feel like faceted jewels when I hold them in my hand, their geometry is breathtaking.

✨🫳🏼WINTER SHOP DROP 🫳🏼✨

Save the date! On Monday, December 8th at 10am PST I’m releasing a series of Stems in sapphire and white on my online shop!💙

The Stems in this post are inspired by Gzhel, a popular style of painted pottery originating in the 14th century in the village Gzhel in the Moscow Oblast (where I was born). The style is known for its striking shaded blue floral designs on an earthenware white clay body. Gzhel pottery was affordable and widely accessible to the lower and middle classes, as the style began as utilitarian earthenware pottery made by Russian peasants in their village workshops. Most Russian families usually have a piece (or many) of Gzhel in their kitchens, as it’s great for day to day use and a reminder of our heritage.

Each of these is made from porcelain and meticulously hand painted in sapphire blue glaze ✨

I’m soo thrilled by these blue and white results from my latest firing, and I feel a surge of creative energy to see this direction through to it’s conclusion 💙🤲🏼

This porcelain bloom will become part of my 2025 Winter Stems Collection. Every winter, I release a limited collection of smaller, affordable artworks on my online shop. Every collection I release sells out quite quickly, and every piece is one of a kind 🤲🏼✨
