What is a mahjong class at Mahj & Mingle like?
Our beginner class is structured to teach the foundation of American Mahjong using National Mahjong League rules. All students are provided with everything they need to participate at the studio as well as take-home handouts.
Class begins with introductions so people feel a bit more comfortable with the instructor(s) and table mates. Next, we move on with an set-by-step power-point learning the basics of what you need to play, tiles, the card, basic rules, and setting up.
Once we get to the setting up portion of presentation, we begin with hands-on guided play with the power-point following along. Your instructor(s) will help guide students through game-play.
Class ends with suggestions of ways to continue learning, opportunities to ask questions, check out our selection of sets and mahjong items in our mini-store, and are invited to hang around to observe or participate in open play.
Because we never want anyone to feel excluded due to financial restrictions, classes and open play are always free, however we always appreciate when people chip in to help us keep the studio maintained. We've seen places charge $60+ for class and $30+ for open play, and we find that downright ridiculous!
The next class is this Sunday, June 14. 2pm - 4/4:30. Classes are generally held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. Open play is every Sunday at either 2 or 5pm (see calendar for details.)
