Why did you decide to join HOP? What are you most excited about this year working with HOP?
I decided to join HOP because most of my past community service work has been related to serving the Hispanic and Latino/a/x community. I feel like HOP is relevant to my background experience in service, although I have always worked in a big city setting like Louisville. I would like to continue to explore how community service looks like in a small town like Berea.
I view the challenges that this pandemic has presented as opportunities of growth and therefore I am excited to discover new, and perhaps even unique, ways to serve Berea’s community this year.

Favorite Spanish phrase or word?
¿Cómo te quedó el ojo?
The literal translation of this phrase is “how was your eye left?” This phrase is said when asking what the other person thinks, but in an almost exaggerated way. It can mean “how do you like that? (because you cannot beat that)” or “how do you like what you see?” For example, if a person were to be shown the beautiful scenery of The Pinnacles, it would be appropriate to ask that person “¿cómo te quedó el ojo?”
