🎄🎭 A Christmas Carol is coming this holiday season!

I’m excited to bring another original theater experience to Ms. Lindsay’s Creative Workshops with our holiday production of A Christmas Carol!

📅 November 29–December 3
🎭 Final Performance: Thursday, December 3 at 7 PM
🎟️ Registration opens October 1
💜 22 spots available | Ages 13+

Please note that the production dates have been **moved one week earlier than originally announced** due to a conflict with the Special Olympics State Bowling Competition.

Participants will be part of the entire production experience—from auditions and rehearsals to costumes, props and our final performance. I’m creating an original adaptation and full production specifically for our cast, with opportunities for actors with different speaking levels, abilities and comfort levels to take the stage and be part of the show.

The $85 production fee includes auditions, rehearsals and the final performance; the original script and production packet; paid workshop assistants; select costume pieces and props; rehearsal snacks; and our cast party before the final performance.

And in the spirit of A Christmas Carol, our cast will once again have an opportunity to give back. All proceeds from our $5 performance tickets will be donated to a nonprofit chosen by the cast. 💜

Registration opens October 1, but you can find the complete schedule, production details and what to expect on the website now:

Bah, humbug! 🎩🎄💜

🍂 Fall Community Connections Art Class

Melissa Morgan and I met this week to put together our plan for the fall session of Community Connections, and I’m so excited about what we came up with!

We’ll be continuing our Create & Connect Art Lab, where participants will have 10 different art projects to choose from and work on throughout the 8-week session — five 2D projects and five 3D projects. During our final week, our artists will get the chance to show off everything they’ve created in an art show! 💜

For fall, we decided to lean into the season with projects inspired by fall colors, textures, and nature — with plenty of room for each artist to make every project their own.

🍁 Our 3D projects:
• Clay leaf bowls & plates
• Recycled + nature sculptures using pinecones, leaves, acorns, and other found materials
• Glass bead wall hangings
• Fall-themed dioramas
• 3D folk art pumpkin paintings

🎨 Our 2D projects:
• Pressed leaf & flower mandalas
• Autumn abstract paintings with pen-drawn trees
• Mandala collage/tree art
• Half-and-half self portraits — half photo, half artist-created
• Picasso-inspired self portraits with stamped backgrounds

And now comes the really fun part…

Next Monday, Melissa and I are having an ART PARTY! 🎨🍂

We’re getting together to make examples of all 10 projects so our artists can see the possibilities when class begins.

Stay tuned — I’ll share what we create! 💜

Now we just need some fall weather!

The first Gather & Grow Supper Club was exactly as I envisioned it — but even better. 💜

A small group cooking, eating, learning and spending time together.

Tonight's BLTs, Baskets & Besties was all about friendship. Parents completed a survey ahead of time that helped me tailor the activities to what would be most meaningful for this particular group.

We practiced making and keeping conversations going, played a little Friendship Detective to learn why we shouldn't jump to conclusions, and looked at different friendship situations to decide whether they were healthy or unhealthy.

That led us into a conversation about peer pressure, where I pulled out the classic, "If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?"

Apparently I'm officially old because none of them had ever heard that expression. 😂

Kole, however, had an answer ready: "Better call the ambulance!"

We also talked about something very practical — how to actually make plans with a friend. Partners worked through the steps and made some mock plans together.

Then it was time to cook!

Partners worked together at different stations in the kitchen to bring our meal together: BLTs, seasoned chips, fruit salad and lemonade. Along the way, they had a chance to learn more about each other, too.

One of my favorite moments of the night wasn't planned at all. While everyone was assembling their BLTs, somehow the whole group ended up in a spontaneous conversation about superheroes. Those are the moments I love — when the conversation just happens.

Everyone headed home with their own basket that included a chip-seasoning recipe, chips with BBQ and cinnamon-sugar seasonings to try at home, a friendship bracelet kit with a friendship mission, a Making Plans With Friends how-to card, and a magnifying glass as a reminder to always get all the facts before jumping to conclusions.

Thank you to all of tonight's participants for making our very first Gather & Grow such a fun evening.

I couldn't have asked for a better way to start. I'm already looking forward to the next one! 💜

Our first Gather & Grow Supper Club is this Thursday. 💜
BLTs, Baskets & Besties

We’ll be making BLTs, fruit salad and seasoned chips together, and friendship activities will be woven throughout the evening with a focus on making conversation, understanding healthy boundaries and not jumping to conclusions.

One of the activities I’ve been working on is Friendship Detective, where we’ll look at different social situations and talk about what we know, what we don’t know and why it’s important not to assume the worst — like assuming, “They didn’t invite me because they don’t want to be my friend.”

Tonight Melissa Morgan and I enjoyed teaching Build a Story, Build a World, a diorama workshop for Community Connections!

Participants used a series of prompts to create their own original stories, then brought those stories to life by building dioramas of a scene from their world. They came up with some incredibly imaginative ideas, and it was so much fun seeing how differently everyone interpreted their story.

At the end of the workshop, each participant presented their finished diorama and shared their story with the group. I always love seeing the creativity that comes out when everyone is given the same starting point but the freedom to make it completely their own.💜

I’m getting ready for our first Gather & Grow Supper Club: BLTs, Baskets & Besties! 💜

I’ve sent a short survey to parents of registered participants to help me tailor the evening to this group’s needs.

👉 I’d also love to hear from this community:

Building and maintaining friendships can be challenging for many teens and adults with developmental disabilities—and those challenges can look different for everyone.

💜 What aspects of friendship do you think teens and adults with developmental disabilities need the most support or practice with?

A few examples might include...
1️⃣meeting new people
2️⃣starting and maintaing conversations
3️⃣making plans outside of organized activities
4️⃣understanding boundaries
5️⃣handling disagreements or rejection
6️⃣recognizing whether a friendship is healthy

Drop your thoughts and experiences in the comments—I’d love to hear them! 👇

I am looking forward to our first Gather & Grow Supper Club on August 20th!

BLTs, Baskets & Besties 💜🧺

There are just 2 spots left if you'd like to join us! Together we'll be making and enjoying BLTs, fruit salad, and seasoned chips while spending the evening connecting with old and new friends.

Before the workshop, I'll be asking each participant's family what areas of friendship they feel their participant would most benefit from exploring. That will help me tailor the activities and conversations to create a meaningful experience for everyone.

Each participant will also head home with a picnic basket filled with:

🧺 A friendship bracelet mission
🥔 A selection of chip seasonings and chips
📝 Recipe cards so they can recreate our supper at home
💜 And a few surprise goodies to continue building friendships long after the workshop is over!

If you've been thinking about joining us, we'd love to have you! There are only 2 spots remaining.
