This post is a little outside of what I normally talk about, but there's a great opportunity to help small businesses that use POS's like Square and other payment processors to get access to get tansaction payments faster and maybe even encourage lowered processing costs through healthy competition.
While the technology at my booth's point of sale feels instant, the system behind it is not. Payments that appear to go through in seconds can still take days to fully settle and reach me. That gap can turn into so much more than an inconvenience for those that need those funds to pay for business or everyday needs.
The bipartisan Payments Access and Consumer Efficiency (PACE) Act (H.R. 8395) offers a great path
forward. By allowing qualified, regulated payment firms to access payment infrastructure
more directly that other institutions have, the bill would reduce bottlenecks, speed up settlement, and increase competition in the system.
For small businesses like mine and many others, that would make a real difference. Faster access to the
money Iβve already earned would help me cover expenses in real time, invest in new
materials, and much more without worrying about delays. More competition could also help reduce processing costs, which matter a great deal for small, independent artists working on tight margins.
, it would be great if you and other representatives would consider this opportunity to help us little guys!
