FREE THE NI**LE?? There’s no questionable!! 🤣

So, ok this mushroom is called a questionable Stropharia (or Stropharia ambigua) and I was trying to make a joke there but I’m not sure it worked. Lmk if you laughed (or if you’re laughing now at my awkwardness).

Anyway... I took this photo in Autumn, but what’s super cool is that I took a very similar photo of the same species in the same spot at the same time in 2017. 😮 Having been hunting mushrooms for a few years now, it’s so rad to go to the same spots all over the place & find the same mushies popping at the same time each year. ✌🏽💖🍄

My favorite thing about mushroom hunting is discovering beautiful parts of nature. The attention paid to otherwise overlooked patches of earth brings me into a whole new world! Even if I don’t find what I’m searching for, I still feel as though I’ve captured a treasure. ✨

I don’t know whether I like the taste of chanterelles or the satisfaction of finding them more... They’re *obviously* delicious, but so are plenty other wild mushies! 🍽 As I’ve learned to identify different edible species, my focus is less on solely looking for that bit of gold, so when I do stumble upon a beautiful chanterelle it’s like finding treasure!

It’s always fun coming across a stump just covered in mushrooms, even when they aren’t edible like these Xeromphalina campanella.

Clusters like this species forms seem so magical, as if they’re part of a little fairy or gnome village. 🧚‍♀️
