Custom knife sheath for a client’s handmade knife. 🇺🇸🇺🇦

This is a very sentimental piece, he made for his friend who lives in Ukraine. To be hand delivered!🥹

The original sheath just about deteriorated, so he came to me for something a bit more special.

For this project, I intentionally avoided using any antiquing. I wanted everything very crisp. However, I aged the American flag, knowing it would get heavy use and wear marks.

Did you know, roughly, 75% of all my leather work is custom work?!

Of that leather work, about 25% is a collaboration project with Gary Griffin . And I couldn’t be happier!

This particular project was uniquely challenging for me and well as extremely rewarding!

Not only was this a blade AND sword project, but I also have to make a shoulder sling and several frogs. Plus, we were both getting ready to go on some big trips. 😳

When Gary dropped off the blades to me, he also gave me some sketches of what the client was looking for and they both just let me fly!🐲 And of course, they made it home to AK, safe and sound😊

Custom work presents many challenges.

- Design complications
- Deadline Pressure
- Size variability
- Lack of fucntionality
- Leather misconceptions
- … and the list does on

However, most of my growth in leather working has been a direct result of me being waaaaay outside my comfort zone! And I am incredibly grateful for each and every opportunity!💗 So thank you for trusting me!🤗

Going from a dusty desert to a rainy forest was just what I needed💧🌲

I feel so incredible fortunate to have all of these crazy creatives in my life!! My family grows bigger each and every faire and even when I’m not vending, I still feel at home!🥰💕💕
