Making movies is cool.
Making movies with your camp friends is the BEST.
There is just something really special about Winter Camp.
For seven days, CampYATC basically turns into one giant movie studio and our campers get to work alongside professional filmmakers, writers, directors, actors and designers to create completely original short films.
And when we say MAKE movies, we mean it.
Our campers are the actors, directors, writers, cinematographers and designers. You are working on set. You are collaborating with your friends. You are figuring out how to take something that started as an idea and somehow turn it into an actual MOVIE.
And it's SO MUCH FUN.
We take the filmmaking seriously because we take our young artists seriously. Our campers work with professional equipment, learn from working artists and get to experience what it's actually like to make a movie from beginning to end. Some of the films we've created at Winter Camp have even gone on to be selected for film festivals, which is pretty darn cool.
But truthfully, the finished movies are only part of what makes this camp so special.
It's the MAKING of them.
It's being on set when your friend absolutely nails a take. It's watching somebody discover that they're actually a really great director. It's the ridiculous moments between setups and the problem solving when something isn't working. It's staying up talking about tomorrow's shoot and then waking up the next morning ready to do it all over again.
There is something pretty magical about arriving at camp with nothing but a bunch of ideas and leaving seven days later with a movie that exists because YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS MADE IT.
That's Winter Camp.
AND HERE'S ONE OF OUR FAVORITE PARTS...
We don't just pull a bunch of scripts out of a drawer and hand them to the kids when they arrive.
We create Winter Camp based on WHO IS COMING.
When you register, you tell us what you're interested in.
Maybe you really want to act. Maybe you've always wanted to try directing. Maybe you're fascinated by cinematography or writing or costumes or design.
You also tell us the kinds of movies you love. Comedy? Drama? Horror? Science Fiction? Mockumentary?
And then we get to work.
Once we know who's coming to camp, our creative team starts developing the projects, characters and filmmaking teams around THAT group of young artists.
That's also why registering early really matters.
The earlier we know you're coming, the earlier we get to start thinking about YOU when we're creating this year's movies.
DO I NEED EXPERIENCE?
NOPE.
You don't need an agent. You don't need a giant résumé. You don't need to have made twelve movies already. You don't even have to know exactly what part of filmmaking you're interested in yet.
That's what camp is for.
Some kids come to Winter Camp knowing exactly what they want to do. Other kids arrive thinking they're an actor and suddenly discover that they LOVE directing. Or writing. Or being behind the camera.
We want you to try things. We want you to take some risks. We want you to get better at the things you already love and discover some things you didn't even know you loved yet.
Mostly, we want you to make something you're really, really proud of with a bunch of people who are just as excited to create as you are.
And seven days later, you'll have the movie to prove it.

It's seven days of filmmaking, creativity, camp friends, ridiculous amounts of fun and probably not quite enough sleep. ;)
