When it comes to choosing art for our homes, I think a lot of us get stuck.

We want something meaningful. Something with a story. Something that makes us feel something every time we walk by it.

But we also want it to work with our decor. To have personality without feeling trendy. And because art tends to stay with us for a long time, it can feel like a big commitment.

When I think about what I want on my own walls, I keep coming back to shoes.

The stories they tell. The moments they hold.

My daughter’s first walkers have been on my list to paint for a while. They had found their way into ā€œthe box.ā€ If you’re a parent, you know the one. The box filled with the few things you just couldn’t part with. Tiny shoes. A preemie onesie. Little reminders of how small they once were and how quickly it all goes.

Proof that it really happened.

I’ll still keep the box. But I also want those memories on my walls. Something that makes me smile and sparks a story when someone asks about it.

I feel the same way about wedding shoes.

I love a good wedding bouquet, and I love painting florals. But if you really want the story, show me the shoes. šŸ‘  šŸ‘ž šŸ‘Ÿ

Lizzie came into our lives when William was born. We had two kids 18 months apart, both Erik and I were working full-time, and we needed help.

What we got was Lizzie.

Over the years, we spent a lot of time figuring things out together. There were plenty of messy situations, last-minute pivots, hard seasons, funny seasons, and all the random things that happen when you’re doing life alongside someone so closely.

One of the things I love most about Lizzie is that she’s completely herself. She’s funny, loud, deeply faithful, and never seems too concerned with doing things the way you’re ā€œsupposedā€ to do them.

She also has a soft spot for babies (and comfy things). More than once, I’d walk in and find her still sitting in the glider with a snoozing baby long after a nap had started. She saw kids who needed to be held. And instead of putting them in the crib, she held them.

That’s Lizzie. She leads with her heart.

This pair is named for Lizzie because she’s left her mark on our family in a hundred ways, most of them quiet and ordinary. The kind of impact you don’t always notice while it’s happening, but can’t imagine your story without later.

We’re so grateful for the years, the memories, and the love she poured into our family. And even after the paycheck ended, she keeps showing up. Lizzie Adams

We love you, Lizzie. šŸ’›

One thing that didn’t really click for me until this year: art is a practice.

Not all that different from a sport, learning an instrument, or any skill you want to get better at. You show up. You do the work. You keep going.

I think a lot of us grow up believing people are either ā€œartisticā€ or they aren’t. We get labeled early, and that label sticks. Because of that, so many people never give themselves permission to try.

What’s become clear to me over the last few months is that this path wasn’t just a passing interest. It’s what I’m supposed to be doing right now.

Not to chase perfection. Just to practice.

And somewhere in all that practicing, something interesting has started to happen. I’m seeing pieces of my own style emerge. The work feels looser, more intuitive, and a lot less concerned with staying inside the lines.

The more I practice, the less I’m trying to paint ā€œcorrectlyā€ and the more I’m painting like myself. And that feels like the whole point.

A few of these new pieces will be available next week alongside my shell earring collection, and I can’t wait to share them with you.

These are coming along and I’m so excited to launch them next week. All will be for sale on my website christinakendallart.com on Thursday, June 18 at 10a. These are all unique pairs with only 1 pair per style since they are intricate and hard to replicate. But I will try to have as many as possible to choose from so no one misses out. Moths will continue to stay evergreen on the site and restock on an ongoing basis🐚 🌊 āļø

All of my earrings are named after someone.

This pair is named for Emily.

Before we had ever met, she dropped diapers and baby supplies on my porch after hearing I was new in the neighborhood with a little baby. We weren’t friends yet. She simply saw a need and showed up.

Over the years, I’ve realized that wasn’t an exception. It’s who she is.

A few months later, she invited me to dinner with a group of women I barely knew and told me it was a celebration for all the February birthdays. Mine is February 10, so I thought it was such a thoughtful idea and it made me feel included and welcomed.

Only later did I realize it was actually her birthday.

That story makes me smile every time because it captures something I’ve always admired about her. Even when she has every reason to be celebrated, her instinct is to celebrate someone else.

I’ve watched her create community that way. Through encouragement. Through connection. Through remembering people’s dreams and cheering them on. Through lifting others up and identifying a need and how she can help.

When I first shared that I enjoyed painting, she went out of her way to commission me. At the time, it felt like a simple act of support. Looking back, I realize it was something more. It was someone I respected saying, ā€œKeep going. This matters.ā€

Her example has made me braver.

Not because she makes hard things look easy, but because she doesn’t. She shares the real story. The work. The uncertainty. The persistence. She reminds people that meaningful things are built one step at a time.

When I designed these earrings, I kept thinking about the Bella Moth.

It’s beautiful, but not flashy. Distinctive, but easy to overlook if you’re moving too fast. The kind of beauty that reveals itself when you slow down and pay attention.

That’s what this pair celebrates.

The people who make others feel welcome.
The people who connect friends who should know each other.
The people who quietly put wind beneath someone else’s wings.

This pair is called The Emily.

A good day to tell some people that they matter and that their impact is felt and appreciated daily. These will be available today at 10a on my site but the message isn’t about that. It’s just a moment to reflect on those who shape us. Tell someone they matter today. šŸ¦‹
