This Saturday, August 22 we celebrate 10 years! Crazy!
When we had the idea to open a gallery in Bellport ten years ago, we never thought it would last as long as it has, nor did we foresee its impact on the community and the joy it would bring us. The positive response we received from so many of you was amazingly supportive, and after that first year we knew that, together, we had created something special. So, we had to continue. Tonja and I shaped a broadly focused mission statement, and we were off and running.
To date we have mounted over 80 exhibitions showing over 197 artists: emerging as well as mid-to-late-career artists from across the country and abroad, all of whom pushed the boundaries of their ideas, subject matter, materials, and mediums – including painting, sculpture, photography, and performance. We have organized artists talks, invited several guest curators (to mix things up), and presented poetry readings and musical and performance evenings. Our goal was to keep the programming fresh and unpredictable, and, to our surprise and delight, you kept coming back.
So it is with profound gratitude that we thank all of you who have supported our vision and cheered us on. You have attended our openings with lively enthusiasm and have been incredibly responsive to the artists and their work. Without you we wouldn’t be here. Most importantly, we thank all the artists who spend countless hours in their studios creating work for all of us to ponder and to question, enhancing and broadening our outlook on the world. Thank you for trusting us and allowing us to present your work to our audience here in this little village on Long Island.
