Vagabond Supper Club is an endeavor by a team of local food enthusiasts to promote conviviality and thought-provoking gastronomy by periodically offering dinners for discriminating diners at rotating venues in the Bellingham, WA area. The concept and name were born of passionate discussions about how to broaden Bellingham’s culinary horizons and deliver unforgettable dining experiences without the constraints of the traditional restaurant model. Organizer/Chef Jesse Otero explains, “Not having to worry about filling seats day after day affords me the independence to develop a more personal idea of food and cooking not practical in a brick-and-mortar situation.”
Otero knows of what he speaks, having cooked in some of the finest kitchens in the West, including Portland’s Wildwood, Santa Fe’s Old House, 44 Degrees and the Bay House on Oregon’s coast, and most recently, the Willows Group on Lummi Island. He compares the Vagabond Supper Club to a musical performance or art exhibit: “Months of thought, menu-planning and preparation go into this one carefully executed display of ideas that will hopefully result in a unique and exciting event.”
