!!!Possible Home!!!
Presence Studio has found a potential new location (1417 Cornwall) —just steps from our previous home.
Even more special, this space has a history of movement. It was formerly home to NW Ballet, and you can feel that legacy when you walk in. There is a large open studio, beautiful natural light from the windows, mirrors already in place, and even existing scaffolding that can support a sound system.
While the floor needs meaningful work before it can fully support our practices, it is a solid foundation—something we can build on together.
This next chapter brings us closer to sustaining a long-term home for dance and movement—but it also comes with real challenges. Rental rates in downtown have risen significantly, and the model we’ve relied on—offering discounted space to artists and groups—no longer covers the true cost of keeping the doors open.
So we’re adapting. And we’re asking you to be part of that evolution.
At our core, our mission remains unchanged:
Building community through dance and the movement arts.
Presence Studio has always been more than a rental space. It is a place where people gather, experiment, heal, express, and belong. It exists because of a shared set of values: accessibility, creativity, mutual support, and the belief that movement can transform individuals and communities alike.
To sustain this vision in a changing landscape, we are moving toward a community-supported model—similar to public radio—where those who value the space contribute on an ongoing basis.
If Presence Studio has mattered to you, we’re asking you to step forward now:
Become a sustaining donor by contributing monthly at:
www.presencestudio.net
Volunteer your labor to help us prepare the new space—especially with the floor and build-out
This is a moment of transition, but also one of possibility. We have located a space with history, light, and room to move. We have a community. Now we need the collective commitment to bring them together.
If we build this together, it will not just be a studio—it will be a living, breathing home for movement in our city.
With gratitude and resolve,
Presence Studio
Our mission is to nurture an interconnected community through dance and the movement arts – offering spaces and events that celebrate embodiment and connection.
