This October, The Indie Stage is going After Dark.
We’re looking for work inspired by the spooky, scary, haunting, eerie, dark, strange, or supernatural.

Bring us your haunting song, chilling scene, darkest comedy, eerie movement piece, creepy character, unsettling story, or your strange little creation that doesn’t fit neatly into any category.

How you interpret After Dark is entirely up to you. Get creative. Give us something we won’t forget.

Performers receive:
• A curated 5-minute performance slot
• Completely free participation, no fees, ever
• Promotion through Bird On Stage
• The chance to meet and connect with fellow artists
• A supportive audience ready to discover something new

📅 October 16th
📍 The Assembly Theatre
🎟️ Audience tickets: $15 online / $20 at the door coming soon!

This is a none paid performance opportunity. All ticket proceeds go directly toward Bird On Stage, helping us create more Indie Stage nights and more opportunities for independent artists.

Costumes are encouraged! If you’re selected, feel free to show up dressed for the occasion. Go all out, keep it simple, or come as yourself.

Have an idea for a play but aren’t sure what to do with it? Bird On Page’s First-Time Playwriting Workshop is a completely FREE, 45-minute online workshop created for first-time playwrights who want practical, approachable ways to get started.

Led by published playwright Garrett M. Ryan Abrams, the session will introduce tools and exercises from his own writing process, from stress-testing an initial idea and discovering character voices to generating dialogue and, most importantly, getting words onto the page.

Participants will try hands-on exercises designed to take some of the pressure out of writing, explore where an idea might lead, and “mine the gold” from whatever they create.

Rather than diving deeply into one area of playwriting, this introductory session offers a high-level look at the process and a practical toolkit you can continue experimenting with long after the workshop ends.

Sunday, September 27 at 7:00 PM
Online
45 Minutes
Completely FREE no fees, no cost. Just community, creativity, and playwriting.

Registration closes September 21.

Come with an idea, a blank page, or simply the curiosity to try. No previous playwriting experience required.

A new Canadian play by award-winning playwright Garrett M. Ryan.

In the middle of a fictional American-Canadian war, the twin cities of Sault Ste. Marie have been annexed and forced back together under a single rule. The border is gone. The system remains.

At the centre of it all: two women. Same name. Same past. Very different present.

Sue Johnson and Sue Jackson, once inseparable, known as the “Twin Sues”, now stand on opposite sides of something they no longer fully understand, sharing control of a checkpoint on a newly nationalized bridge. What used to divide them has disappeared. What still binds them… is harder to escape.
