Theatre33 At Theatre33, we celebrate diversity and community through storytelling. Our mission? Join us — and be part of a story bigger than words. ❤️

As Bellevue’s only multilingual theater, we empower immigrants and next-gen Americans to connect with their roots and share stories through live productions and education. 🎭 Theatre33 is a vibrant bilingual 501(c)(3) non-profit community theatre — and the only independent stage in Bellevue, WA! 🌟 We bring together transplanted immigrants, next-generation Americans, and local dreamers through the p

ower of live storytelling. Our productions are performed in 🇷🇺 Russian, 🇬🇧 English, 🇺🇦 Ukrainian, and 🇫🇷 French — often with subtitles — so mixed-language families, language learners, and new audiences can experience every emotion, every laugh, and every word. ✨

We are more than a stage: we are a cultural bridge 🌉 — sharing history, literature, and language across generations and communities. To spark curiosity, nurture creativity, and open hearts through powerful, multilingual theatre. 💬🌍 From timeless classics to bold new works, our shows celebrate the universal stories that connect us all.

🎭 “The audience is not passive; they are participants.”
— John Tiffany

Even in silence, they shape the show. Their energy changes everything.

Today’s Read of the Day: Murder on the Orient Express, adapted by Ken Ludwig from Agatha Christie.

A train.
A murder.
A compartment full of suspects.

Snowbound somewhere between East and West, the luxurious Orient Express becomes the scene of an impossible crime. One passenger is found stabbed to death in the night — and detective Hercule Poirot must solve the mystery before the killer strikes again… or escapes entirely.

What makes this adaptation so theatrical is its momentum. Ludwig preserves Christie’s iconic puzzle-box structure while giving the play speed, wit, and cinematic fluidity. The tension builds compartment by compartment, interview by interview, as every character reveals another layer of deception.

The suspects are wildly different people from different countries, classes, and backgrounds — aristocrats, governesses, military men, widows, servants. Everyone seems suspicious. Everyone seems to be acting.

And at the center of it all is Poirot: brilliant, eccentric, obsessive, and quietly compassionate beneath his razor-sharp logic.

For actors, it’s a gift.
Every role hides secrets.
Every scene shifts alliances.
Every line can mean two things.

The challenge is precision — balancing heightened mystery with genuine humanity. The audience must enjoy the game while still feeling the emotional weight underneath the investigation.

It’s elegant.
Suspenseful.
Darkly entertaining.

A classic whodunit built for the stage.

📖 Read of the Day: Murder on the Orient Express
Stylized. Clever. Murderously fun.

One of the most surprising things about the Edinburgh Fringe is how much you can fit into a single day.

With shows running constantly across the city, it’s possible to see multiple performances back to back—from morning until late at night.

But the real challenge isn’t finding shows.

It’s choosing which ones to see.

🎭 “Theatre gives us the courage to be vulnerable.”
— Tanya Barfield

To reveal. To risk. To be seen. Theatre creates that rare kind of bravery.

💬 When has theatre helped you feel brave?

“Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”

For much of this process, the answer has often been:
“We are.”

Edward Albee’s masterpiece is sharp, funny, brutal, deeply human, and painfully honest. It dives into the illusions we build for ourselves, the games we play to survive, and the dangerous line between love and destruction.

For our director, this production is deeply personal. Albee’s writing has long been part of his artistic DNA — beginning years ago with a first reading of The Zoo Story that left a permanent mark, continuing through years of performance and discovery at the legendary Ilkhom Theatre.

Now, that journey continues with one of the most iconic works of American theatre.

But Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is not simply drama.
And it is not simply comedy.

Like Chekhov, Albee forces us to laugh at pain and ache beneath the laughter. The result is explosive, vulnerable, cruel, hilarious, and startlingly truthful.

This process has challenged every actor involved. It has demanded fearlessness, honesty, and trust. At some point, all of us have been afraid of Virginia Woolf.

And now, we invite you to find out if you are too.

Today we remember the stories that never got a curtain call.
This Memorial Day, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and humanity of those who served and gave their lives. Theatre reminds us that every life carries a story worth telling — and worth remembering.

As artists, audiences, and community members, we pause not only to reflect on history, but to appreciate the freedom that allows voices, creativity, and stories to continue to exist on stage.

From all of us at Theatre33, thank you to the heroes and families whose sacrifices are never forgotten. 🇺🇸

Some stories work differently at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Shows that are intimate, actor-driven, and focused on human connection tend to resonate in smaller spaces.

The audience is closer. The experience feels more immediate. Every pause matters.

This is what makes certain productions feel especially at home at the Fringe.
