International Ballet Academy is a professional dance academy with a focus on training young dancers who seek a career in dance. We cater to dancers all over the world and it is our belief that a passion for dance lies in everyone, thus we offer recreational dance courses through our regular season and during summer.

🩸 DRACULA RETURNS TO SEATTLE — FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY.

This Halloween season, experience International Ballet Theatre’s original production of DRACULA, presented by Seattle Theatre Group (STG) at The 5th Avenue Theatre.

🦇 Conceived under the artistic direction of Vera Altunina, this signature IBT production brings together classical ballet, dramatic storytelling, powerful choreography, striking costumes, and a dark theatrical world unlike anything else in our season.

This is International Ballet Theatre’s DRACULA — and there is only one performance this year.

PART 3 | OPEN CLASSES WITH FRANÇOIS 🇫🇷

🩰 OPEN CLASSES AT INTERNATIONAL BALLET ACADEMY ARE OPEN TO IBA AND NON-IBA DANCERS.

You’ve heard François talk about the French School.
You’ve heard why he believes this tradition is worth passing on.

✨ Now you can experience it for yourself.

You don’t need to be an IBA student. Come from another school, another training background, or simply come because you want to experience a different approach to ballet.

🇫🇷 François adapts his Open Classes to the dancers in the room while bringing the precision, refinement, musicality, and distinctive character of the French School into his teaching.

And for François, one element is essential.

🎶 “I became a dancer because of the music.”

Beautiful music. Serious training. The opportunity to experience another school of ballet and simply enjoy dancing.

PART 2 | PASSING ON A TRADITION

✨ “It looks simple, but of course, it’s very difficult to make it look so easy.”

For François Serre y Berga, teaching the French school is about more than preserving a particular ballet style. It is about passing on a tradition.

🇫🇷 Throughout his career, François has remained faithful to the training he received in France while bringing that knowledge to dancers in Washington State and beyond.

🌎 His work has taken him to master classes across the United States and internationally, giving dancers from different backgrounds an opportunity to experience the distinctive qualities of French schooling.

🩰 And he sees enormous value in dancers experiencing more than one tradition.

French and Russian training do not have to compete. Learning both gives dancers a broader vocabulary and, as they mature, the ability to understand what works best for their own bodies, artistry, and movement.

✨ François describes himself simply as “a link” in that chain, receiving knowledge from one generation and passing it forward to another.

PART 1 | FRANÇOIS & THE FRENCH SCHOOL 🇫🇷

🩰 Meet François Serre y Berga, Assistant Artistic Director at International Ballet Academy and a teacher of Ballet and Contemporary Dance.

Trained in Paris and a graduate of the Paris Opera and Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris, François brings to IBA a tradition rarely taught in the United States: the French school of classical ballet.

✨ In Part 1, François introduces the qualities that distinguish French training from Vaganova, Cecchetti, and Balanchine styles.

Precise placement. Fast, articulate footwork. Subtle use of port de bras and port de tête.

🇫🇷 For François, the beauty of the French school lies not in exaggeration, but in precision, nuance, elegance, and simplicity.

This is the beginning of our conversation about a tradition he has spent decades learning, teaching, and passing on to the next generation of dancers.
