Life doesn’t give us a map.

Maybe it gives us something closer to a compass—something carried quietly within us, pointing forward even when the road disappears into places we cannot see.

We take the next step anyway.

And somewhere along the way, if we’re willing to look inward, the journey changes us.

John’s tattoos have followed a similar path.

Inspired by the psychedelia and experimentation of The Beatles, this sleeve and chest project became something more personal—a landscape of color, music, memory and the idea that through all the noise, love remains the constant.

Some of this work has been healed for nearly five years.
The George Harrison portrait and mandala are roughly a year and a half old.

Time passed.

John changed.

The tattoos traveled with him.

And now he has returned to Integrity Tattoos, where Jason Wilson will begin another chapter—transforming an old tattoo on John’s opposite arm into something new.

Perhaps that is what growth has always been.

Not knowing exactly where the road leads.

Not pretending the darkness isn’t there.

Just refusing to let fear choose the direction.

The compass remains.
And the journey continues.

David’s been tattooing for a decade and has spent the last few years here at Integrity Tattoos becoming part of
our shop,
our clients,
and our Downtown Belleville community.

He likes his work a little darker—black and gray, strange creatures, heavy black, eyes, wings and whatever else crawls out of his head.

But behind the work is just David.

One of the people we work beside every day.
One of the artists our clients have gotten to know and trust.

David had a couple cancellations this week,
which means there’s some rare room in his schedule.

Growth doesn’t come easy.
It never has.
It never will.

David has been tattooing for a decade now, and over the last few years at Integrity Tattoos, I’ve watched him grow into larger and more ambitious black-and-gray work.

Work like this takes more than talent.

It takes time.
Sacrifice.
Long nights designing when nobody is watching.

You have to work on yourself before you can take on projects like this for your clients.

This large-scale chest and throat piece was developed with his client over multiple sessions—each one another opportunity to push the work further.

Not every artist gets the time, space and stability to find out what they’re capable of.

As the owner of Integrity Tattoos, I’m proud I get to provide that opportunity and watch that growth happen.

The community sees the finished tattoo.

Being the man you want to become doesn’t come easy.

It takes discipline to show up.
Courage to stand up.
And character to lead when leadership isn’t convenient.

My client Chris has spent years investing himself in his community—as an Alderman, a Mason, and simply as someone willing to accept responsibility when responsibility is needed.

Yesterday, we continued his Masonic sleeve with this custom black-and-gray piece.

I’ve always believed tattoos can be more than decoration. They can become markers of what we’ve earned, the principles we live by, and the person we’ve worked to become.

Leadership isn’t a title. It’s what you repeatedly choose to carry.

His direction is unmistakable—dark black & gray, strange creatures, macabre imagery, heavy texture, and tattoos that aren’t supposed to feel comfortable.

Growth doesn’t happen by accident.

For five years, Austin Richter has continued to develop his craft at Integrity Tattoos—and we’re proud of the artist he’s becoming.

We believe talented artists need more than a place to work. They need the right environment, exposure, experience, education, and opportunities to challenge themselves and continue growing.

Austin has taken advantage of those opportunities.

He’s studied, experimented, taken on increasingly challenging projects, and continued pushing himself technically and artistically. Just as importantly, our community has embraced his work and continued trusting him with bigger and more creative projects.

This black-and-gray piece is another project currently in progress, and we’re excited to watch it continue developing.

After more than two decades in this business, one of the things we’re proudest of isn’t simply the tattoos that leave our doors.

It’s watching artists become better than they were when they walked through them.

Some people live by convenience.
Others live by a code.

Honor. Loyalty. Discipline. Sacrifice.

A code doesn’t mean much when life is easy.
Its meaning is revealed when following it costs you something—when you’re required to stand your ground, make the difficult choice, or put yourself on the line for something greater than yourself.

This is the way.

I’ve been continuing work on Aaron’s custom Star Wars sleeve, building around the world of Boba Fett and the Mandalorians.

This session brought Slave I into the composition, emerging from hyperspace against a deep-space background, with an X-wing disappearing into the distance.

We’ll continue hand-drawing the surrounding galaxy and connecting it into the rest of the sleeve as the project develops.

That’s what I love about large-scale tattooing.

From a distance, you see Boba Fett, armor, spacecraft and stars.

Look longer, and the artwork begins asking different questions:

What do you stand for?
What are you willing to sacrifice for it?
And when nobody is watching, do you still live by your code?

Art has always given us a way to explore ideas larger than ourselves.

Sometimes it’s hanging on the wall of a museum.

Sometimes you carry it with you.

This is the way.
