An Evening on Abend with the Belleville Philharmonic

It is with a heavy heart and warm affection that we recognize the passing of our Artistic and Music Director Dr. Robert Hart Baker. He came to us as we celebrated our 150th anniversary and served us with boundless enthusiasm and generosity.

His passion and knowledge impacted each of us in the orchestra and in our wider community in ways we can never forget. Not only did his leadership make us better musicians, but his loving example made us all better people.

We will miss him terribly, but can only give heartfelt thanks for the many gifts he shared with us so generously.

Perhaps the greatest tribute of his life is embodied in our own Society's motto: "For the love of music..."

Hello everyone! We are Chris and Nichole Hettenhausen, the faces behind An Evening on Abend.

This all started in 2020. My husband Chris and I approached the Belleville Philharmonic Society and asked them if they would be willing to play on our porch. We invited family, friends and neighbors over. I last minute made an open to the public Facebook event and about 65 people showed up. Each year it has grown and evolved. And last night there were an estimated 600-700 attendees!

We just wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for coming out and to everyone who made a donation to the Belleville Philharmonic Society! And also, a great big thank you to all of the local businesses who have reached out over the years and made contributions! You have all helped make this a success!

Chris and I simply do this because we love our charming historic street, Belleville’s rich history and the Arts. We love seeing everyone out and enjoying all of these things together. I hope we created an evening that felt like you traveled back in time. Until next year! 🥂
