In Andy’s poster below, he is absolutely correct in pointing out that uncle Albert is one of the highest quality acts that we have presented at TNP. We are really excited to get the whole band this time. Some of you may not be aware that Tim and Lisa are a husband and wife collaboration. What a joy it must be to create beautiful sounds with someone that is so important in your life. I have also been fortunate enough to have someone that I have shared loving and meaningful moments for 44 years. However, the last time we tried to hang wallpaper together, it nearly drove us to seek divorce attorneys. I’m just glad Tim and Lisa have such a collaborative and harmonious relationship when it comes to the music. So bring your special someone, or your aunts, uncles, second cousin In-law, or grandchild and meet us on Main Street.

Maybe I didn’t think so in high school, but history can be fun. For instance, in the 1980s, there was a very popular local duo that performed at all the best nightclubs. They were called CR and Gither. I was just starting to get into the music scene myself, and our group of friends would go see them often. The CR stood for Clark Rowden. Many years ago, in downtown Belleville, there was a happening nightclub called Castletown Geohagen (sp?). They had bands perform most weekends and I saw a lot of very fine musicians there. One of the owners of that establishment was Kevin Gagen. He has also been a performer in the local area for many years. Therefore both of these individuals are part of the historical fabric of the local music scene. Together, they are proof that solo performers can create something more magical than the sum of their parts. You’re going to love these guys.

When describing someone’s taste and or preference for certain pleasures in life, there is an old saying that goes something like… “That is why there is chocolate as well as vanilla.” When it comes to this week’s TNP, I would add one more flavor… Maybe strawberry? Our performers this week would have a hard time being more diverse in their approach to Music. One is an eclectic Songwriter, educator and artist. The next, a performer specializing in popular songs and discovered by Andy on a Saturday morning at The Abbey. The third is a young prodigy with remarkable talents in songwriting and fingerpicking Guitar. If I was a Las Vegas oddsmaker, I would wager that you will be amazed and entertained for a good part of the evening. So this week, bring your snacks and some Neapolitan ice cream for dessert. Remember, sharing is caring.

One of the reasons that Joe Camel and his band are so popular is because they perform very likable music. They perform it well. The other reason is that folks around my age that were going out to bars and clubs in the 70s and 80s are wistful for the youthful recklessness that once pumped inside. All that sticky floor, beer flavored, sweaty lustful energy that also made us feel so alive. Looking back maybe it wasn’t the safest or healthiest use of our time, but man it was fun. You still have some of that fuel inside you, come share it with us on Thursday. Bring some peanuts.

We rarely get any of our acts from national tours. But Mr. Allen and his band contacted us and asked if we could be one of the stops along the way. His trio is the real deal as far as rocking blues go. Here is an example of their music……https://youtu.be/fyfWPpMro38?si=C_JZqhKVIYK8CujZ

If the weather is nice, maybe we can go outside again? Be nice to have a little more music under the stars. So be prepared either way, bring some snacks, your party shoes, and the will to be entertained! See you Thursday

The BelleVagrants will be wrapping up their spring tour this Saturday, May 16 at the Venue in Belleville Illinois. Show starts at 7 PM. In case you are an art lover, this is the middle day of Art On the Square. The Venue is only a block or two from the heart of all that artistic excellence. As a bonus, Saxophonist extraordinaire Jeff Pinkel will be joining us. If the weather cooperates, we may even play outside on the back patio. So if you plan your day carefully, you can treat your eyes, ears and immortal soul to a pretty darn good day!

Nearly all musicians will tell you that creative growth is one of the most satisfying features of being an artist. Of course it’s fun to see people dancing and having a good time when you play another top 40 song for the 37th time. But it’s the new stuff that really gets you cranked up. Jeff is probably in at least four or five other bands, including the BelleVagrants. But this Thursday, he’s the one picking the songs and the band members. He was even smart enough to include his talented and lovely partner Shari for vocal duties. As Andy describes below, his song choices and arrangements are impeccable, and sometimes unexpected. So come on up and see what professional Musicians and a willing audience look like when they’re having fun together!
