Two Love Stories in Drypoint by Mary Vollero

“I sometimes feel compelled to create something, as I did with these prints, because I want to tell a story. During the process of making art I often realize what it is really about, and what I want to share with others. In this case, it is about the love I have for my pets, it is about the value of loving.”

“The Calendar of Mary” by Jason Smoyer

This show captures a small fragment of the infinite range of creativity. It is twelve different photographs of the same person. It is a showcase of different techniques and styles  blended together then anchored to one person in an attempt to convey the message of human potential.  Whether you resonate with the model to adopt different roles or with the photographer pushed to utilize different skills, both leave their comfort zone and face the challenge of creating this series.

Quantum Dreams by James Farrah

For many years I fooled around with woven paintings - trying to resolve the technical issues involved with weaving watercolors and attempting to produce meaningful images. Working on a way to combine two different perspectives into a new unified image. What I came up with was a technique in search of appropriate content.

One night, after an evening of reading about quantum theory, I had a very vivid visual dream. I woke knowing that I had to produce the dream into reality and that the woven watercolor trick would provide the perfect way to mesh the dream images into visual reality.

Meet James at our Opening Reception this First Sunday, Sept 1.

Free and open to the public.

“Cambridge: Portrait of a Place” by Jane Liechty

Cambridge, England, has drawn visitors and scholars for generations. Most are captivated by its stunning architecture and vibrant intellectual life. Few, however, find their way off the beaten path into the lives of ordinary people living within this extraordinary setting. Cambridge: Portrait of a Place explores Cambridge, not as a museum or postcard but as a living entity.

Creative Exploration - The Growth of an Artist by Elyse Pasquariello

One of Elyse Pasquariello’s favorite ways to grow in her craft is to keep trying something new. New mediums, new techniques, new classes. Rare is it more than a few of this artist’s pieces are the same style though most you’ll find have a familiar boldness in color or emotion. She finds joy not only in landscapes and animals, but also capturing emotions personified.

Chapter 2 of “Entanglement” is now available to view!

https://entanglement.buzz/

“Entanglement” is an ongoing digital comic by Benjamin Andrew that explores the web of connections between plants, pollinating insects, and humans. Presented through a unique website, the story dramatizes the parallels between the internet and the biological networks plants use to communicate and share resources. A solitary bee named Mason discovers natural — and unnatural — secrets by listening closely to the signals emanating from plants. Readers can follow the story through each new chapter, and even suggest pollinator gardens in Centre county that the characters can investigate.

“Entanglement” is part of our “Entwined Worlds” exhibit exploring the symbiotic relationship between humans and insects.

LINETYPE by Benjamin Fehl

This set of drawings illustrates how three distinctly different sketching techniques can be used to tell three unique stories about place, all through the articulation of line. The artist explores onsite, time lapse documentation, drawing from the subconscious, and the assembly of pieces. Highly detailed, these works invite the viewer to step in close and appreciate both the complexity and simplicity of line.

Creating Festival Banners Since 1981 by Marty Edmunds

As an artist, a woman who loves to sew, and a recent resident of Boalsburg, I was so happy to see that State College had a wonderful Festival of the Arts with a yearly banner contest. When the Arts Festival adopted its “juggling jester” logo, I decided to use a jester in all my banners.  Since then I’ve been challenged every year to come up  with a new theme using a jester as you can see in this display.

Walk by our 24/7 Display Window to see these amazing banners up close and personal.
