Take a step Into the Great Wide Open with artist Marianne Mekis.

In her first-ever exhibition, Marianne invites us into a season of discovery, sharing a collection of works that reflects growth, experimentation, and the courage to venture beyond the familiar. Each piece marks a moment in an evolving creative journey—one shaped by curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to embrace the unknown.

Join us in celebrating a new voice in our artistic community and see where creativity can lead when we dare to step into the great wide open.

✨ What happens when a 12th-century vision meets a 21st-century artist?

Hildegard of Bingen, Rewards of Life, Illustrated by Edith Schrot invites visitors into a world of symbolism, wisdom, and imagination. Through a series of contemporary paintings, Schrot reinterprets the visionary writings of Hildegard of Bingen—one of history’s most extraordinary women.

Blending art, spirituality, and storytelling, the exhibition explores timeless questions about humanity, virtue, struggle, and our place in the universe. Each painting serves as a visual doorway into Hildegard’s profound reflections, making these centuries-old ideas accessible and relevant for today’s audiences.

Visit BAM and discover how art can bridge centuries, bringing ancient visions to life in unexpected and inspiring ways. ✨

What lasts?

In What Is Lasting?, artist Stacie Bird explores the rural landscapes and farming communities of Northwestern Pennsylvania that shaped her life. Through images of cultivated fields, harvested crops, and structures returning to the earth, she reflects on the balance between human effort and nature’s enduring cycles.

Visit BAM this weekend and consider what truly endures.

On display now in our 24/7 Display Window: HOLD CLOSE
by Laura Kern

Hold Close explores the delicate tension between protection and vulnerability—where care can both comfort and confine. Through sculptural works that cocoon metal in fabric, Laura Kern creates forms that feel at once shielded and exposed.

These pieces invite reflection on what it means to protect, preserve, and hold something—or someone—close.

Wrapped in traditional Korean bojagi cloth, Bound by Bojagi beautifully illustrates the ties that connect generations, cultures, and family stories.

In this striking digital illustration, artist Castagnari portrays herself and her mother bound together in vibrant patterns that symbolize their multicultural heritage. Though her mother does not share her Korean background, the bojagi becomes a powerful metaphor for connection—stitching together different histories, identities, and experiences into one shared story.

On view now as part of Identities Playground at Bellefonte Art Museum for Centre County.
