Today we are saddened by the loss of Pastor Donna King: Pastor, mother, advocate, and community scholar.
Pastor King was a voice in Bellefonte, not only for the St. Paul’s AME Church that she loved so dearly, but for the history of Bellefonte, specifically the abolitionist movement and the Underground Railroad. BAM’s permanent exhibition, “A Journey to Freedom”, was a frequent stop on Pastor King’s walking tours and student visits. She would often break into song during these visits and just hearing the echo of “Oh Freedom”, as she sang with such conviction, would always make you stop and listen. We will miss her dearly.
“the nonsense of the square. the ridiculousness of the stare.”
by Jack Mernin
Mernin’s paintings are motivated by chance encounters and unexpected collisions. He applies paint in such a way that the outcome remains unpredictable until a feeling of coalescence and fusion occurs, during a realized moment in the event of a painting where nothing more can be added or removed.
On display now thru January 31 in our Soecial Exhibition Gallery.
“Small Works, Big World”
By Michele Rivera
4”x6” Original Watercolor Paintings with India Ink
Solid Oak Wood Frames
$55.00
Michele has been finding peace in creating this series of small paintings. Keeping it simple in a chaotic world.
I love when I develop a deeper appreciation for a piece of art after speaking with the artist. This is exactly what happened when I met with artist Amy Frank to film her gallery talk.
Listen as she shares her thoughts and inspiration behind a couple of her “Lightbringers” featured in her current exhibition, and you’ll understand what I mean.
