I did take pictures of more than just the chipmunk (I know, here’s another one)! These were all taken at our campsite and the IWC as those were the only places we went.

Images from the MN ZOO last week. We went on the last day of our vacation (which was also the only decent day temperature wise) and yes, I did take more pictures there than in Ely.☹️

Returned from our summer trip to Ely and sadly it was cut short and severely hampered by the fires. We were not able to access any of the places we like to adventure into and most of my camera time was at the campsite shooting birds, squirrels and chipmunks. The extreme heat kept the wolves hiding in the shade and doing as little as possible and when the heat broke, the smoke took its place and created a nice haze to any image I took. I joked with Bobbi that I took more pics of chipmunks than wolves and…I was right. Thankfully we had a resident chipmunk who visited with us every day and was always willing to pose for me.
Here is a sample of what I captured

Discover the Remarkable World of Wolves Through the Eyes of One of the World's Leading Wolf Biologists
For more than 40 years, Douglas W. Smith has devoted his career to understanding one of the world's most fascinating and misunderstood animals—the wolf. From his pioneering research on Isle Royale to leading the legendary Yellowstone Wolf Project, Doug has spent decades observing wolves in the wild, documenting their lives, family relationships, behaviors, and their critical role in healthy ecosystems.
His newest book, Wolf: The Illustrated Biography, is far more than a field guide. Beautifully illustrated and grounded in a lifetime of scientific research, it takes readers on an engaging journey through the world of wolves—from pregnancy, denning, pup rearing, and pack dynamics to communication, hunting, ecology, conservation, and the complex relationship between wolves and people. Whether you've followed Yellowstone's famous wolves for years or are simply fascinated by wildlife, this book offers an extraordinary opportunity to learn from one of the foremost authorities on wolves anywhere in the world. If you have ever wanted to better understand these remarkable animals, this is a book you'll return to again and again.

“Cabbage White”
This little creature landed in front of me just long enough to snap these images. I was quite pleased with the results and one of the rare times I was glad to have such technologically sophisticated equipment (that’s a mouthful!). I wouldn’t have been able to capture these with my Pentax K100 or Canon T70!😁

While I carry a 18-135mm lens in my pack, the lens on my camera is a 100-400mm. This allows me to not just get in close to the subject but to throw the background completely out of focus by compressing the background with the zoom lens.
The result is why I call Masterpieces; “Portraits of Nature”
