I wanted to share "Approaching The Gate" (2010) by Daniel Ceglinski. It reads like a haunting landscape: a mottled green field that ends against abrupt structures, a shadowed lower band that gives way to a castle beneath an oozing sky with dripping, ghostlike forms. Two off-center spires frame an opening where a watchful sentry waits, and apparitions appear in multiple forms, leaving you to decide whether to turn away or step closer. It has a forward pull, like a ground fire climbing toward a new patch of field, but it stays measured and full of small, irregular details that reward closer looking.
