Originally from Bangalore, India, Deepa was introduced to dancing at the age of 5. She has been continuously learn
ing and has proved herself time and again on various dance platforms. Having been trained extensively by Guru Radha Sridhar in Bangalore, Deepa has secured distinction in all three dance exams (Junior, Senior and Proficiency exams) conducted by the Government of Karnataka. She has performed her Arangetram (Ascent to stage graduation) successfully in 2001. She has also learnt from Guru Nandini Eshwar of Mysore, Guru Soundarya Srivatsa of Bangalore, and Guru Bragha Bessell of Chennai. She is also a trained Carnatic classical musician. Deepa combines in herself a student, performer and choreographer. An assortment of these qualities won her awards and certificates, along with critical acclaim. Among several awards and recognitions, Deepa has been recognized as “A Grade” Artist by Doordarshan Kendra (National TV Channel), and has been conferred the title “Sathya Abhinaya Sundaram” by Bharathanjali Trust in Chennai, India. With excellent communication skills and imaginative Abhinaya (expression), Deepa has been able to impress and connect herself to laymen and connoisseurs alike while performing. Deepa has performed extensively throughout India and abroad. She has rendered more than 100 performances – over 40 solo recitals, 10 dance ballets, 40 group performances, and 7 televised shows. She has also choreographed 3 dance ballets herself (“Krishna Leela”, “Ramaya Ramabhadraya” and “Vande Mataram – Dances of India”). Most recently, she performed in The Nehru Center and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in London, and the Indian Embassy in Budapest. Deepa has delivered several workshops introducing Bharatanatyam to foreign audiences, including at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA, at Buckigham, Browne and Nichols (BB&N) School in Cambridge, MA, and at Grenoble Graduate School of Business, Grenoble, France. Gifted with fine demeanors and expressive eyes, she is aptly etched for dance and has dedicated herself to the field of dance. Deepa has been teaching Bharatanatyam for several years now in the Greater Boston area under the banner of Vaibhava Dance School.
