Meet Sara Horning. ✨ Sara is our Marketing Manager and she has been with Tamarack Marketplace for almost 10 years. Sara began as a part-time Graphic Designer and worked her way up to managing the Marketing Department. She says that during her time, she has learned to stay open-minded, embrace challenges and always continue learning!
Something that people may not know is that Marketing requires an umbrella of knowledge! “When I started here, I was focused on the design aspect of advertising. I found that to promote something, you must know about not only the things you are promoting, but the people who promote it too. You really learn what customers are looking for and what keeps them coming back.” She continues to pay attention to feedback, watch trends and really listen. Marketing requires being up to date with technology and design programs, social media trends, and people!
Another aspect of the job is working closely with every department to make sure a complete and accurate story is being told. Each department has its own goals and audience, and marketing helps bring it all together.
Working at Tamarack Marketplace makes it easy though. “Working here has always felt more like a family and a home away from home. Whether it is words of encouragement, a smiling face, brainstorming together, or even advice, this team is truly a wonderful team to be a part of. Some of my closest friendships were formed because I work here!”
When asked what she enjoys most about the job, Sara replied, “Engaging with art and creative work from West Virginians every day. Art truly connects people and I love being able to see the connections our audience and customers make with the work our artisans create and the hard work our staff puts in behind the scenes.”
Along with loving the arts in West Virginia, Sara also loves the legends and folklore of Appalachia. She couldn’t even choose a favorite cryptid! “It’s a close tie between Braxxie and Mothman. But I really like Sheepsquatch too.” When asked a fun fact about herself, she also couldn’t pass up the chance to mention that she is a huge Swiftie. “Any situation calls for a Taylor Swift song!”
