Whether you're taking the stage for the first time or preparing for your next audition, Theatre West Virginia Academy offers acting classes for every age and experience level. Led by theatre director, educator, and professional teaching artist Mariah Plante, these classes emphasize creativity, collaboration, confidence, and strong acting technique in a supportive, pre-professional training environment.
Acting (Grades 1–5)
THURSDAYS 4:3OPM
Young performers will explore the fundamentals of acting through imaginative theatre games, storytelling, improvisation, movement, and scene work. Students build confidence, communication skills, and stage presence while having fun creating together.
Acting (Grades 6–8)
MONDAYS 4:30PM // or // THURSDAYS 5:45PM
Designed for middle school actors ready to grow as performers, this class focuses on character development, improvisation, scene study, and performance technique in a collaborative ensemble environment. Due to high demand, Acting (Grades 6–8) is offered in two sections—one on Mondays and one on Thursdays. These sections cover the same curriculum on different days. Please register for only ONE section.
Acting (Grades 9th-12th)

Working together as an ensemble, students will strengthen their stage presence, communication, and storytelling abilities while exploring a variety of acting techniques in a supportive and challenging environment. Whether you're new to theatre, involved in school productions, or looking to grow as a performer, this class provides a strong foundation for continued artistic development.
Advanced Acting: Monologue & Scene Study (Grades 9–12)
MONDAYS 7PM
This advanced class is designed for high school students seeking deeper actor training. Through monologues, scene study, script analysis, and individualized coaching, students will strengthen their technique, prepare for auditions, and develop truthful, compelling performances. Ideal for students interested in school productions, community theatre, college auditions, or pre-professional training.
Acting for Adults (18+) – Monologue & Scene Study
THURSDAYS 7PM
Whether you're stepping onstage for the first time, returning after years away, preparing for auditions, or continuing your professional training, this welcoming class is designed for actors at every stage of their artistic journey. Through monologues, scene study, and acting exercises, students will strengthen performance techniques, deepen their understanding of character and storytelling, and build confidence onstage. Individualized coaching and a collaborative atmosphere make this an excellent class for beginners, community performers, and working professionals alike.
