Spark Plug Theatre Collective produces Stories That Ignite Conversation and Inspire New Perspectives

With opening night just over a week away, the Secret Order team is polishing up story moments and digging deeper into the complicated relationships at play! There are no clear paths for the characters in this play chasing a possible cure for cancer and you'll find yourself wondering what you would do in the same situation.

taThe cast of "Secret Order" had a special visit at rehearsal recently! Dr. Christopher Dubay is a (now retired) PhD Medical Geneticist with Bioinformatics skills who most recently worked with the Providence Cancer Center in Portland where he worked on cancer immunotherapy -- the subject the play centers around.

Dr. Dubay spoke to them about working in an academic lab, the process of cancer research, the tension between academia and corporate ("going to the dark side"), and the ethical quandaries each of the characters face throughout the play.

A little more about Dr. Dubay:
He grew up in Portland, and has done postdoctoral research in France and England. He is a past Assistant Professor at OHSU, where he did research and teaching. He is also a co-founder of the Genetic Information Management Systems Corporation.

ANNOUNCING SEASON 4 AT SPARK PLUG THEATRE COLLECTIVE!

It’s hard to put into words how it feels to write that. It's a flood of joy, gratitude, and awe that we still get to be doing this 4 years later. That what was born out of a moment of “let’s just make a thing” has grown into a theatre company filled with the most incredible, creative volunteers and passionate audience members who are just as hungry as we are to challenge our perspectives and satisfy our curiosity about our place in the world. What we’ve all created together is a community of people who are unsatisfied with complacency and instead keep reaching to grapple with and illuminate our common humanity through the power of stories.

Thank you for being a key part of our early years — we’re just getting started and are so glad to have you on this journey with us!

When you have six big wheels, you channel your inner child and form a neighborhood biker gang! As much fun as we're having with them, we're so glad that after the actors are done playing with them, they'll move on to their new home at Mari's Little Lambs, a Beaverton preschool, where the kiddos will get to enjoy them too!
