If you can feel your frets poking on the side, your fretboard is already too dry. Make sure your environment is properly humidified, and add some board conditioner for extra protection. My luthier developed proprietary conditioner available here:

Visit my shop for some of the most amazing cutting boards you will find. All boards are approximately 18"x12"x1" and come with juice grooves, hand holds, and silicone feet so the board stays exactly where you want it. When these boards are gone that's all until next Thanksgiving when I take a break from guitar building and make a batch of boards.
