I have always been interested in languages, and particularly the development of the English language. “Yinz” was a completely new word to me up until December 2019 when we moved to western PA, and it has become one of the most fascinating words I’ve learned. If you’re from the Pittsburgh area, then you already know what it means and have most likely used it, but for those outside of western PA, “yinz” simply means “you guys” or “y’all”. What I find so intriguing is that it’s really only said in such a small area of the country. It seems to be a real, genuine Pittsburgh thing, and I think that’s pretty cool. So of course when I made a classic Pittsburgh color blend (check out those beautiful yellow bridges if you’ve never seen them), I wanted to add something truly Pittsburgh into it. This 16 oz wine tumbler is perfect for any yinzer, native or not (👈🏻me).
And if yinz are also into learning about the English language, make sure to check out the History of English Podcast.
