The BDACT Awards has given Jerome H. Kamps Memorial Scholarships to some amazing high school seniors. These students really stood out from the rest.

The Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre (BDACT) is thrilled to celebrate two exceptional local talents, Ella Gochenaur and Nash Gartzke, as the proud recipients of this year’s Jerome H. Kamps Memorial Scholarships!

Both students officially stepped onto their college campuses this week to begin the next exciting chapter of their academic and artistic journeys:

Ella Gochenaur is starting her first week at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she's studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and also getting a certificate in Musical Theatre. With lots of experience performing in over a dozen shows, Ella has impressed audiences with her roles as Lucy Grant in Bright Star and Maggie Anderson in Brigadoon. She's also been teaching the next generation, recently choreographing a middle school production of The SpongeBob Musical for BDACT. Looking back on her time performing, Ella said:

"Being able to view mistakes as learning experiences and not as failures has been essential to growing my confidence and belief in myself... In a world where there is so much division, this community theatre draws people in from all different backgrounds, beliefs, experiences, views and gives them a common bond and a shared positive experience."

Nash Gartzke is starting her first year at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where she's studying Criminal Justice and also taking classes in Psychology. She's had an amazing time in theater, with nine productions under her belt - she's been on stage, managed the stage, helped direct, run the lights, and acted in shows. You might remember her as the Little Pig in Shrek the Musical, or from her performance in Urinetown. For Nash, being on stage has always felt like a safe and comfortable place to be. She's done a lot of different things in theater, and it's clear that she loves it. Now, she's off to college, and it will be exciting to see what she does next.

"Theater has helped me become a better friend, a creative person, and a leader... Throughout hard times and dark days, theater has always been something that I knew I could turn to."

Let's all come together to give a big cheer and lots of love to Ella and Nash as they start their college journey! We're super excited to see the amazing things they'll achieve. They're going to do great things and make us all proud. A huge round of applause and extra special congratulations to these two awesome individuals - here's to an incredible college experience!

Have you ever heard the saying “It’s like trying to herd cats?” Well, that’s an easy job compared to directing an improv team…I imagine…I’m not the director…I’m one of the cats.

At 15, she paid her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate contests across America. But what happens when the document meant to protect you fails the women in your family?

This November at Encore Hall, trace four generations of women in a deeply personal, fiercely relevant, and gripping exploration of the U.S. Constitution; how it protects us, fails us, and shapes our personal freedoms today.

Tackling real-life stories of civil rights, immigration, and family legacy, this production asks the ultimate question: how can our foundational document evolve for future generations?
