On US-62 in Rosine, just a couple of miles from Bill Monroe's childhood home, there's a brick store that's outlived more than one closing. 🏪
The Rosine General Store was built in 1933 by original owners Edith and Everett Woosley, and it was later expanded in 1947. It earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places back in 2003. For years the building sat quiet, but in September 2022 a local woman named Candi Rice started selling food out of a trailer nearby, and by September 2024 she and Daniel Hulen had moved the operation right into the historic store itself, reopening it as Phat Bellies.
Candi has talked about wanting good homemade food while keeping the local history alive, and with Rosine's own Jerusalem Ridge bluegrass festival drawing visitors nearby, the old store has a reason to stay busy again.
Have you ever stopped at the Rosine General Store, or made the drive out for the bluegrass festival? 🎻
