Today marks the official first day of summer—and while we're all excited for sunshine, adventures, and longer days, it’s important to remember that summer fun also brings unique risks for our furry friends. As temperatures rise, so do the dangers of heatstroke, burned paw pads, and dehydration. Be sure to keep your pets cool, provide plenty of fresh water, never leave them in a parked car, and avoid hot pavement during peak hours. A little extra care goes a long way in keeping your companions safe, healthy, and happy all summer long!

After receiving a barrage of emails and messages from members of an anti-pitbull organization, complete with graphic photos, I feel I must say this. You tell me that my dog is a “ticking time bomb” that will inevitably attack a child that he works with at school. You tell me his “locking jaws” will need to be pried apart with a stick. You’ve tried getting our therapy certifications withdrawn just because you have so much negativity brewing in your lives. You tell me how he looks miserable and hates his life. You tell me he is fat, obese, and poorly cared for. Well, Let ME tell YOU this. I trust Cole and his siblings more than any humans. Your rhetoric and propaganda is nothing more than a series of falsities. I once, many moons ago, fell into the belief that these blockheaded dogs were dangerous, because I lacked knowledge and fell into the trap of misinformation. I educated myself and quickly learned the realities of these incredible beings and had my heart stolen by their big heads and huge chests. Because some high profile athletes and celebrities made headline news for using these dogs in the most horrific of ways, we have faced an uphill battle ever since. I have the pleasure and privilege of watching Cole and his siblings lovingly side by side with children, veterans, and the elderly, making a huge difference in their lives. Those thousands upon thousands of children, families, schools, and facilities stand steadfast by our side because they witness the truth. In a roundabout way, we thank you for this nonsense because we can turn it around and have the most remarkable conversations about what discrimination means. I am darn proud of what we have become and who we are as a team. We WILL continue changing lives, hearts, and minds, regardless of your cowardly typed words. We always have and always will rise above.
