'A Whole System Of' is their brand new Duo creation; their fourth such in this form. Culminating a four-decade-spanning collaboration on a boundless range of work, the intimacy of duo puts to fore the consummate magic of their deeply developed communion.

A defining period in both of their musical lives was membership in the David S. Ware Quartet, hailed as one of the premier bands in jazz history. Simultaneously, both began building their own landmark & far-ranging discographies as leaders.

Their first duo album, 'Zo' (1994), will be re-issued by ESP-Disk’ (CD; LP for first time) on the same day as 'A Whole System Of'. Full circle style.

Don't sleep on this fantastic record. And for my bit, the cover portrait of Antonín Dvořák was a blast to create, pen & ink drawing with digital painting.

Some sets sit immediately etch themselves into your audio memory, and the four sets I caught by and from their six-night, packed-house residency at carved their way in note-by-note, composition-by-composition, hour-by-hour.

Playing a range of music from their six releases (including “Omni” their latest), The James Brandon Lewis Quartet brought down the house. Wish I could have experienced all that magic but two nights is a musical blessing. Couldn’t be happier or prouder — a sentiment I can only assume is shared by the many musicians and artists who rolled through as word got out that something special was brewing on that legendary stage.

Shout out to the great company of fellow audience members .astengo.fefer .fidelity Satya Pemmaraju Pierre Menard and as the man said from the stage night after night: support human musicians
