I sold 2 paintings yesterday to a longtime guest at our extended stay. Our suites are decorated with art, some of it mine. She just bought a condo in town and is getting a start on furnishing it.

For any of my friends who are near Weaverville or who want to brave record-high temperatures there this weekend, I have an art opening at the Main Street Gallery from 5 to 8PM. I am showing watercolors along with 5 friends: we call ourselves Friends Who Paint. We all met through painting and have known each other for many years. Here are a few paintings I will have in the show.

Nearly 20 years I painted this after seeing a Common Gallinule at the Marsh. But I chose to paint its more colorful cousin, the Purple Gallinule. Little did I know that one would turn up here in northern coastal California. (It's normally a bird seen in Florida's everglades.) I have managed to catch glimpses of it, and today I heard its call. We think it may have been in distress, as a juvenile Copper's hawk was hanging out in the willows over its head. It's been here since Thanksgiving and seems to be content with our mild winter and abundant food.
