Today, we say goodbye.

Not to Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, but to a version of the show that has been part of our lives since 1993.

For more than thirty years, this version became a tradition for so many families. We knew every line before it was spoken, every joke before it was told, and somehow, after all those years, it never lost its magic.

For so many of us, this wasn’t just another attraction. It was a reminder that the future isn’t something to fear - it’s something to build. Generation after generation found themselves singing along, laughing together, and leaving with a little more optimism than when they arrived.

Tomorrow, the Carousel begins a new chapter. New memories will be made, just as they always have been. But we also pause to celebrate the version that has meant so much to so many people for more than three decades.

One of the greatest messages Carousel ever gave us came from Now Is the Time:

“Now is the time, now is the best time, now is the best time of your life.”

It reminded us to live every minute, open our eyes, and watch how we win it. Maybe that’s exactly what this moment is asking of us - not to dwell on what we’re losing, but to appreciate just how lucky we’ve been to experience it.

As the curtains close, I can’t help but think of another lyric that has always captured the heart of this attraction:

“Walt had a dream, and that’s the start. He followed his dream with mind and heart, and when it became a reality, it was a dream come true for you and me.”

That dream gave us this version of Carousel of Progress. It gave us Jean Shepherd’s unforgettable performance as Father and welcomed back Rex Allen’s familiar voice as Grandfather. It gave us traditions shared across generations, laughter that never seemed to get old, and an opening scene that always felt like coming home again. Most of all, it gave us hope.

Whatever tomorrow brings, nothing can take away what this version has meant to the people who loved it. Those memories and the hope this show inspired will always be part of us.

Thank you for every laugh. Every song. Every spin of the theater. Every final Christmas that ends with burning the Christmas turkey. (Anyone for pizza?) Every reminder that there’s always a great, big, beautiful tomorrow shining at the end of every day.

For me, Carousel of Progress has never been just an attraction. It’s been a reminder that no matter where life takes us, there’s always reason to believe tomorrow can be better than today. I have a feeling many of you have felt the same.

From all of us at Carousel of Progress Love, thank you for sharing this journey with us. Thank you for celebrating this remarkable attraction, its history, and, most importantly, the optimism it inspired in all of us.

After all, It’s not just a song about a great, big, beautiful tomorrow. It’s a way of looking at the world. 💙

I was at Carousel of Progress today, and the Cast Member in the theater told everyone to take a seat?
I don’t know why they said that. Wouldn’t they know the seats are bolted to the floor? How are we supposed to take one? 🤔

On this day, November 23rd, in 1993, the Carousel of Progress officially reopened as Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress!
Along with becoming Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, for the first time since 1973, the original Carousel of Progress theme song “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” returned to the show!

Today, the show pays tribute in Walt Disney’s honor to the original Carousel of Progress from the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair!

And since the Carousel of Progress is celebrating an anniversary/birthday, we figured we’d share a little secret…
Over the past few months, Carousel of Progress has been receiving backend equipment upgrades/replacements!

One of the most notable ones is a different audio experience! Along with everything else, parts of the audio of the attraction have been remastered!
(Keyword being “parts of the attraction”. It sounds excellent in places where it hasn’t before but sounds not as great in areas where it has before. But, oh well, that’s progress for you!)
