On January 8th, my grandma was admitted to the hospital.

On January 10th, I spent the night in the hospital with her. She saw me crocheting a different shawl, and said she would like one.

Over the next few days, I scoured the internet, searching for the perfect yarn. (I went with ’s Rosegarden fi*****ng weight variegated cake in green).

By the time the yarn was delivered, my grandma was home on hospice.

From January 20th at around 8pm till January 24th around 5pm, this was the only project I worked on. My fingers cramped and my elbows squawked. But I had to finish it.

She got to have it for 6 days before she died. For 6 days, it laid across her chest. For 6 days, my love wrapped around her, bringing comfort and warmth.

I love this shawl. The pattern is amazing. But it will be awhile before I can feel okay making it again. (Pattern is by ).

Every time I wear my hexi-cardi around my mom, she likes to drop “hints” about how much she wants one. Most recently, she was telling a friend all about how I said I was too busy to make her one.

Meanwhile, momma #2 and I have been planning this surprise since September (shoutout to her for keeping a secret from her wife that long).

I finally gave it to her Saturday. And she is one happy momma bear.

When your 5 year old asks for a plush scarf with a zigzag in very specific, self-selected yarns, you improvise.

Scarf is done in a waffle stitch with Loops & Threads Sweet Snuggles, color Coral. With a zigzag surface stitch in Loops & Threads Carousel Twist, color Birthday Cake.

He’s happy. I’m happy. All is well.

Giant plush cat for a very special birthday girl!

To anyone who writes crochet patterns: can I ask one simple, often overlooked favor?

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, TELL US WHAT BRAND YARN YOU USE.

Yarn weights across brands vary, much like clothing sizes across brands. A jumbo in one brand might be closer to a chunky in another.

The pattern in particular called for Jumbo yarn. I wanted a very particular pink for this, and Bernat just so happened to have it.

But I swear to the powers that be that my cat is 5x bigger than it should be.

Just, please, tell us what you used in your patterns so we can at least find something comparable.

Either way, birthday girl was happy.

Still have: blue, purple, pink, and all the multi color yarn.

My cotton yarns aren’t going on the wall as the holes in the cakes are much too big for the peg hooks.
