I think one of the greatest lessons we can teach our children has nothing to do with grades, sports, or good manners.
It’s showing them what accountability looks like. As parents, we’re going to lose our patience sometimes.
We’ll raise our voices.
We’ll make the wrong call.
We’ll misunderstand what happened.
We’ll have moments we wish we could take back.
The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is what happens next. Looking your child in the eyes and saying…
“I was wrong.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I shouldn’t have reacted that way.”
“I’m going to try to do better.”
That doesn’t make you weak. It teaches your child that making mistakes doesn’t define a person. Taking responsibility does.
Children don’t need parents who never mess up. They need parents who show them that love includes humility, growth, and repair.
I truly believe that’s how cycles get broken.
What do you think?
Should parents apologize to their children when they’re wrong, or do you think it undermines authority?
