My latest painting, āHorizonās Promiseāā¦one that I wrestled with for almost a year.
Iāve drawn and painted Mt Rainier countless times over the years, and wanted to try and capture that breathless moment I crested a foothill on the trail to see it up close for the first time.
Power and beauty all at once, and I remember an inner peace coming over me. Take a visual hike with me and enjoy a true Pacific Northwest treasureā¦and try to find the special visitor I painted into this one.
As for the title, āHorizonās Promiseā speaks to the belief that beyond present struggle and darkness, something brighter is always on the verge of emerging.
The horizon becomes a quiet assurance that even when the present feels uncertain, the unfolding future still holds hope, growth, and the possibility of transformation.
I began this piece on December 21st of last year, but a few weeks in the momentum was lost. Life was filled with new commitments, and my painting time and energy thinned out, so it sat unfinished, but never forgotten.
Ironically, it was my own recent struggles with purpose that finally pushed me back, and gave me the clarity to finish. Iāve always loved how the light dances on those glaciers, and precisely why that mountain looks so soft and beautiful up close. Contrast that with its sheer size and you begin to understand how the complexity adds so much that matters.
As an artist, I carry everything with me into the paintings I struggle to complete: doubt, restlessness, and the slow work of finding my way back. In that sense, this piece is less about a single moment and more about the long, uneven journey toward meaning.
This painting holds space for that inābetween; where uncertainty and hope exist side by side.
