The mission of the Louisiana Youth Orchestras is "To supplement and enhance music education in the schools and promote the highest standards of orchestral performance." Today the LYO serves over 150 students ranging in age from 5-21 in the greater Baton Rouge area and the surrounding parishes. The LYO program consists of four ensembles:
The Louisiana Junior String Ensemble: This ensemble is perf

The Louisiana Junior Youth Orchestra: A full orchestra consistiong of strings, winds, and percussion. This group is generally for talented middle school students who are looking for a challenge. The Louisiana Youth Orchestra Percussion Ensemble: The newest of the LYO ensembles, this group features students who are interested in playing percussion ensemble music. They delve into world music, stomp, latin percussion, and generally anything they can create rhythms with! The Louisiana Youth Orchestra: The mainstay of our program, this ensemble features talented students from all over Louisiana and surrounding states. Repertoire includes masterpieces of the Western Classical Music and music from the Pops genre. Soloists often perform with the orchestra, and masterclasses or sectionals from local professionals are offered.
