SUPR (Southern United Professional Racing) Series *NEXT EVENT*

Saturday, April 29th at Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, Louisiana. FOLLOW US ON TWIT

The Southern United Professional Racing (SUPR) Series is a regional touring dirt late model series that is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and travels throughout the deep south. The series was founded in 1990 by Donald Watson (owner of Baton Rouge Raceway in Baker, La., and active racer) and Roxy Dancy (former owner of Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La.). The SUPR Series is currently the second l

ongest touring series in the south/southeast of the United States and will start their 27th season in 2016. SUPR has grown from the initial campaign of (15) races at five tracks in two states, to becoming the all-time leader in sanctioned dirt late model races by a single organization (active or defunct) in the country, in July 2012.

*SUPR AT BATON ROUGE ON DECK*

In an unprecedented start to the season, the Southern United Professional Racing Series' Dirt Late Models will hope the ninth time is the charm in getting the 2017 FINALLY underway!

The series has had one setback after another, in a season that was set to begin the second weekend in April. Now as it stands, the tour is slated to try Baton Rouge Raceway in Baker, La., for a fourth time, co-headlining with Flat Track Motorcycles, this Saturday night, June 17th.

In its illustrious 28-year history, SUPR has never started a racing season later than April 1st, or experienced as many consecutive rain outs (3), cancellations (2) and postponements (3) to begin a racing calendar.

Despite the obstacles, the SUPR Series aims to take to the dirt of its home-track and open the season for the 11th time overall at Baton Rouge Raceway -far more than any other venue.

Saturday night's feature is a 1,500-to-win/$200-to-start event and is the circuit's first visit to BRR since March 2015, where two different drivers, Shane "The Ragin' Cajun" Hebert and two-time SUPR champ, Jon "Catman" Mitchell, have reign supreme over the last four races held at the 3/8-mile track.

A three-hour open practice is also scheduled for this Friday night at Baton Rouge Raceway, from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm and racing kicks off Saturday night at 8:00 pm, where multiple weekly classes will be the undercard of the SUPR DLM and the Flat Track Motorcycles.

GO TIME IS FAST APPROACHING!

*SUPR ADDS TRADITION-RICH EVENT*

The Southern United Professional Racing Series has added Chatham's Spooky 50 event to its 2017 schedule, one that has long been rich in dirt late model tradition.

The race is slated to be a one-day event, being held Saturday, October 21st at Chatham Speedway, now being promoted by Jerry Hobson, formerly of USA Speedway in Sterlington.

The quarter-mile racetrack, which opened in 1988, has crate late models as a weekly class and has already hosted the Southern Outlaw Late Model Series twice to date this season.

SUPR last visited Chatham five seasons ago, with "The Intimagator" Chris Wall of Springfield, La., taking the win on April 28, 2012.

*SUPR AT BATON ROUGE JUST OVER A WEEK AWAY*

For the second time in three years, the Southern United Professional Racing Series looks to start its season at Baton Rouge Raceway in Baker, La., one week from this Saturday.

The event was originally slated to be the fourth event for the SUPR tour in 2017, but between many hampering effects for weather and other reasons, the dirt late model circuit aims to begin its racing year at its home-track on Saturday, May 20th.

The 30-lap feature event was pushed up a week (from May 27th to NOW May 20th) and will mark the 11th time in its 28-year history, that the series will open its racing calendar at Baton Rouge Raceway.

In a tune-up of sorts, last weekend 2014 SUPR Rookie of the Year, Rick Duke of Tioga, La., powered his Rocket Chassis car to a $1,000 unsanctioned victory at Baton Rouge, topping Nicholas Brown of Hodge, La., and four-time series champ, Rob Litton of Alexandria.

Also on Saturday, May 20th, SUPR will share the spotlight with Flat Track Motorcycles as a co-feature, with other weekly classes being on the undercard.

Despite the recent misfires on getting the season underway, the countdown clock is ticking again and we are anxious to close in on starting the racing season with engines roaring!

*A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDER*

Attention Racetrack Promoters and Late Model Drivers:

My name is Donald Watson, owner of Baton Rouge Raceway for the last 30 years and co-founder of SUPR in 1990.
At that particular time, tracks could not afford to run late models on a weekly basis. It was a time when bought cars and motors came into play, the racing car count dwindled in numbers to approximately twenty in our state.

Being a track owner and late model driver, I became aware of what was needed for both parties involved. As a track owner, one needs enough cars with a reasonable purse structured to put on a special event that the spectator didn’t see on a weekly basis.

Through the 1990’s until 2010, tracks and late model racing flourished with motor rules that SUPR offered.
Unfortunately, I’ve seen many tracks come and go. It’s a very hard business.

From a racer’s standpoint, we have had an accelerated rate of technology from 2008 to the present that has raised the expenses from top-to-bottom of the classes at your racetracks. This in turn, has caused a drop in car count in all classes.
New technology has made every class faster, however, that same technology wasn’t given to the racetrack promoter to increase his bottom line.

Today, we are faced with a similar situation, tracks need a reasonable purse structured based on today’s market. Currently, I am not aware of a late model special event run in Louisiana, Mississippi, East Texas or South Arkansas that has been profitable with today’s purse structure.

With that being said, SUPR is going to be restructured to where you as a track promoter can afford a special event and give the local late models' a place to race. For the love of the sport, maybe we can build a new fan base and keep racing alive.

As a track promoter or racer, if you have any questions regarding this, you may contact me at 225-324-9191.

Sincerely,
Donald Watson

*SUPR AT BOOTHILL DECLARED A RAIN OUT*

The punches just keep coming, again the Southern United Professional Racing DLM Series has fell victim to Mother Nature this weekend, with looming forecasts putting high percent rain chances at 80 or 90 percent for Saturday, April 29th at Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, Louisiana.

Both staffs will strive to secure a make-up date for the $2,000-to-win/$400-to-start event, which was going to be the season opener for the series. It is the fourth event that was to serve as the start-up for SUPR that has been intervened in some form or fashion.

The latest information and updates will be posted on the newest developments when they become known.

*BOOTHILL IN THE CROSSHAIRS FOR SUPR OPENER*

The countdown clock was reset after the 171 cancellation this past weekend and now the Southern United Professional Racing DLM Series now has Boothill Speedway slate for the 2017 season opener on Saturday, April 29th.

The event will feature Boothill's weekly divisions on the undercard of the 40-lap, $2,000-to-win/$400-to-start SUPR feature. The event will mark the 68th visit for the 28-year old tour.

Boothill was the most frequented track last year for the series, holding three events (March-May-July) and producing three different winners in victory lane.

In fact, "The Hill" has not had a repeat SUPR winner since June 2012 to present (five races), as "Rocket" Ray Moore of nearby Haughton, has been the only driver to accomplish the feat since the track was shortened to its current 1/4-mile configuration -the '07 Southern United Professional Racing Series' Champion has three wins on the latest Greenwood-track transformation in SUPR competition.

Among the other weekly Boothill Speedway classes running this season is Modifieds, Limited Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinders and ProMods.
