Joyful Madi Fine & Funky Art My name is Madi Joy. I’m an oil & acrylic painter in Baton Rouge, LA and my preferred genre of visual art is surrealism.

I also enjoy painting realistic representations of animals and nature on odd objects, such as oysters. You can find my art daily at the Mid City Artisans gallery on Government St. You can meet me at monthly art markets hosted by Local Pop Up at Electric Depot. Happy Spring Equinox & Ostara! 🐰🥚🌷🌀 I figure there is no better time to breathe life back into my art account. This is a water color bunny I did like 6 years ago just for fun. It’s no masterpiece, but I don’t often use watercolor and was surprised I could even make this. They say to make art even if it’s bad. So here I share it, too.

Ostara marks the time when day and night are near equal length. Bunnies are most commonly associated with Spring because they symbolize fertility, cycles of nature and rebirth. They were also traditionally linked to this season through Germanic folklore. I’m guessing there are many stories that connect bunnies to Spring. I’m just an amateur enthusiast of folklore, so do some digging to learn for yourself if you’re interested!

Sometimes being an artist means giving other artists a platform! As the Special Events Manager for the Baton Rouge Zoo, I created a brand new event, the Art for Animals Festival. It featured a juried show meant to explore the connection between art and wildlife, sustainability, and conservation.

It also featured live plein-air paintings and music and animal themed kids crafts. I got to know many of the creatives involved so well and I’m so inspired!

My friends and family know that both art and animal are my life’s passions. My professional career and personal passions blended together for this event. I feel so blessed by all the amazing artists I got to know along the way and look forward to what’s to come from this. I’m feeling reinvigorated and ready to get back into creating my own work!
