Meet Assistant Flight Instructor Lacey Miller!!

Hello, everyone! My name is Lacey Miller, and I am a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I started my aerial journey in the end of 2014 with my first love, acro yoga, and believe it or not but this is actually how I met my husband! Then, two years later I had my first aerial silks class. Unfortunately, shortly after my first couple of classes, I injured my hand and hand a long recovery process. (Don’t worry, the injury was not related to anything aerial!) In 2017, I found my passion for aerial sling with the help of Jamie Ray. I started attending any and every class with Airseekers; I just could not get enough of it. I wanted to learn anything and everything I could. Airseekers helped shape who I am as an aerialist today, and I am proud to be a part of this team.

If I had to pick three strengths, I would say they would be…
1. Endurance. I have always led an active lifestyle which has helped me with my endurance in the air as well as helped prepare me for many different types of performances. I play competitive beach volleyball during the warm months, and for exercise I attend cardio kickboxing and boxing classes. I also have a background in weightlifting and have been lifting since 2017.
2. Knowledge. I have been an intensive care unit registered nurse for over 7 years, and I am actively pursuing my master’s degree to become an acute care nurse practitioner. My background on how the body works and moves really helps when learning the theory behind different aerial techniques.
3. Determination. Some people call me stubborn, but I consider my stubbornness to be determination. Once I set my mind on something, I will do anything to achieve my goals. Whether it is learning a new aerial move or striving for straight A’s in school, I attack all my goals head on and with full force.
Now that you’ve learned a little bit about me, I can’t wait to meet each and every one of you! I can’t wait to help you find your passion for the aerial arts. I guarantee that once you find it, you’ll never want to stop.

Meet your “Assistant Flight Instructor” Julia Walen!

Hello everyone! My name is Julia Walen.
I grew up in North Carolina going to the beach, the arcades on the boardwalk, camping, you name it…I eventually moved to Louisiana with my Mom. I played volleyball and was a pitcher for my high school softball team. That was fun, but dancing and swimming were my favorite forms of exercise. As a kid, I took gymnastics for a bit and I was obsessed with figure skating. I would attempt all the tricks at the local ice skating rink. Getting my split back to how it was in the 90’s is definitely a goal of mine these days and aerial yoga has been very helpful in that regard.

Flash forward to 2016, I got to dip my toe into the world of aerial silks. Aerial movement struck me as such a beautiful physical art form and a fabulous way to gain strength and balance. I learned a great deal about how to turn an idea or story into a routine, once I began classes with Airseekers. It was quite difficult at first, so I decided to take a series of acro yoga classes in 2017. One of my weaknesses has always been self-doubt. Acro yoga coupled with aerial yoga increased my focus, my core strength and my understanding of how each muscle works, which in turn gave me more confidence in myself. A strength I now have, thanks to years of sticking to this newfound love, is a sense of physicality and agility I knew I had, but had previously doubted.

A strength I’ve always had is to remain calm under pressure. It has come into play often. When someone was feeling all wrapped up with no hope in sight, I would be there to untangle their fear…or rather just their foot from a panic inducing knot…same thing! Sometimes “it takes a village” and if you stick it out, you will soon learn what I mean.

I started attending classes/workshops regularly in early 2018 with Airseekers and never looked back. I have met some wonderfully talented people along the way who continue to encourage and inspire me. I look forward to meeting all of you and hopefully inspiring you to tap into that potential energy!
